Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Training sessions are offered in packages of 4, 8, 12, and 16. Package size is based off of weekly training frequency working out to a monthly total. Higher frequency training packages carry a lower price per training session.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When working with a new client I always start with an interview process to get a good understanding of the client's goals, past experiences with training, and any other wants and needs that may be vital to their success. Following the interview process I do a thorough movement evaluation to identify any red-flags that would be essential components to address first in the development of our training program. During the initial evaluation and consistently through the training process I repeatedly explain the relevance of what we're doing and why to foster a better understanding of the training process for each and every client. Finally, following the initial evaluation, I lay out the plan for the client's program based on their goals and their initial capabilities. Plans include weekly breakdowns of goal-oriented exercise selections and overall volumes of work based on what the client and I have discussed as realistic expectations. No plan is set in stone however and there is constant reevaluation during the training process assessing whether adjustments need to be made or if things should continue on their current path.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Since my start in the fitness industry in 2010, I have accrued multiple high-level credentials that relate to my field. Currently I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I also possess specialties in corrective exercise and sport performance enhancement through the National Academy of Sports Medicine along with a specialty in golf-specific strength and conditioning through the Titleist Performance Institute.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I got my start in training after finishing my undergrad and considering a path toward coaching baseball. I was hired on at one of the local gyms as a trainer to work for the summer and found that it was incredibly enjoyable. I decided that personal training was something I could see myself doing for a living and have been doing it ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Through my years as a trainer and coach I have work with clients from all across the board, young and old, male and female. I have worked with kids as young as 8-9 years old helping them to develop their fundamentals relating to basic strength and coordination as well as sport specific fundamentals. I have work with athletes from the high school level up through college and beyond in terms of improving their overall athleticism as well as their overall physical capacity and resiliency. I have worked with the weekend warriors who just want to get a little stronger while improving their health and minimizing their risk of injury. I have also worked with the older populations who are just looking to improve their quality of life with better movement and less chronic pain.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of my recent projects that I am most proud of is the strength and development that one of my 13 year-old athletes was able to see over a 4-month training block. He's 6 ft tall but was weighing in at only about 130 lbs. Over the course of our training block, he was able to get his weight up to 145 and his strength in a number of different areas went up exponentially. His athletic preparedness going into his basketball season and then ultimately his baseball season will be markedly improved.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Check their credentials and their experience. Unfortunately there is a lot of variance of skill levels across the personal training and coaching world. Experience and rapport with past and current clients is a much more accurate indicator of skill and quality.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
"How exactly can you help me achieve my goals?" "Have you worked with individuals in the past with goals similar to mine?" "What are your expectations of me as we work together?" "What are some challenges/obstacles to be expected along the way?"
