My journey in music started during my middle school years when I joined the band, and it continued throughout high school and college, and into my professional career. Along the way, I've had the privilege of learning from exceptional teachers, including some of the most accomplished musicians in Los Angeles. These experienced mentors exposed me to a diverse range of percussion instruments and styles, providing me with a well-rounded musical education. Their instruction and guidance expanded my horizons and deepened my understanding of different musical genres. Drawing from my professional experiences and the extensive training received from these esteemed instructors, I have become a reliable reference for various aspects of music. Whether it's exploring different percussion instruments, delving into specific musical styles, or seeking guidance on musical theory and technique, I can offer valuable insights and expertise. I consider myself fortunate to have had such enriching musical opportunities, and I am excited to share my knowledge and passion for music with my students. Through my teaching, I strive to provide a comprehensive and well-informed perspective that encompasses a wide range of musical elements. I offer private lessons to all ages and create lesson plans for each student to ensure personal and academic goals are met, and even surpassed, all while striving to make learning music fun and enjoyable.

Hello, my name is Tyler Chen and I received my BMUS in Jazz Composition and a certificate in Music Technology from the University of Utah. I am an award-winning jazz composer with many years of experience of teaching and playing piano and drums. With my lessons I will teach you how to: -Problem-solve (logical thinking, efficiency in piano practice), -Set goals, -Persevere, -Develop Character, -Be disciplined, -Manage your time, -Develop self-expression, -Find messages presented in the music. -Submerge you into the culture of a variety of music genres, -Develop your musical vocabulary, -Play proficiently, -Become a well-rounded musician.
