Hi! I’m Ryan, and I am a Berklee alum. I am definitely a music specialist, but I also regularly offer math tutoring and chess lessons. I am based in Maryland, but I give online lessons to my remote students.
Even before my time at Berklee, I spent years striving to put myself into every musical situation possible. This gave me a multi-perspective understanding that allows me to comfortably advise students of all ages and backgrounds regarding several different instruments, styles, and theoretical concepts.
My favorite part about teaching, regardless of discipline, is the fact that it allows me to keep growing and learning while sharing my experiences to help others do the same. So feel free to reach out, and I will happily customize and create the learning environment that you desire!

Pierce Emata: Experienced Piano Teacher With In...

Greetings! Thanks for viewing my quote! Here's some info that I'm confident will convince you that I'm the ideal choice for your needs.
(UPDATE #2! -2022: I'm truly honored and thrilled to have been made a Bluthner Concert Artist! Bluthner is one of the top 3 piano brands in the entire world. )
(UPDATE! -2018: I've been awarded the Steinway & Sons 2018 Top Teacher Award. This award is presented to very select teachers across the US and Canada who have exemplified excellence in their commitment to teaching and inspiring students in the study of piano performance. )
Background:
I have 30 years of seasoned experience as an internationally known teacher and concert pianist, with experience teaching the entire spectrum of students from beginning to professional level, ages 5 through adult. I teach both in-studio and online coast to coast to thrilled students of all levels. My online lessons are equally effective as my in-person lessons due to my first-rate skills as a teacher. I have degrees in piano performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the largest and one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. I am on the summer piano faculty at the internationally renown Interlochen Center for the Arts, which draws 2700 students from 50 countries. In addition to judging competitions across the US, I was also invited in Nov 2017 to judge the MusiQuest National Piano Competition in India, where I also lectured to teachers about best practices in teaching and performing. In Oct 2019 I returned to India for a very successful concert tour with master classes in the Mumbai area, and in Nov 2019, I was invited for the 2nd time by the South Dakota Music Teachers Assn to be their Convention Artist, where I'll presented a concert, judged competitions, and gave lectures on best practices in teaching.
Competency:
The competency of the teacher, whether for beginner levels or advanced, is of critical importance. Many parents will assume that simply opting for the cheapest teacher will be sufficient for a beginner. Nothing is further from the truth, as I very often get transfer students who were greatly held back in their progress due to teachers who weren't very deeply trained. Having a concertizing track also enhances my teaching skills; the best teachers are experienced in both teaching and performing. I work with a set of studio policies that specifies all policies in complete detail, in order to ensure students/parents' understanding of all expectations and to avoid any confusion. I am vetted annually by all local, state and federal law enforcement agencies prior to returning to teach at Interlochen, to ensure that my background check remains completely perfect.
Both Leisure/Enjoyment & Serious Instruction, Coast to Coast:
I provide both in-studio and online piano instruction, and have students across the U.S. as well as in the Las Vegas area, where I'm the most experienced private teacher in the city. My teaching path is different for each student, depending on your goals and likes. Not everyone wants to be a professional pianist; I take both leisure students as well as serious students and give both a quantum leap forward in both their skill level and their enjoyment of the piano. My style of teaching is positive, constructive, and nurturing, at all levels. If you're a serious student, I will position you to qualify for large college scholarships and the preeminent music schools.
Pricing:
Thumbtack recently changed the way that we provide quoting, eliminating my ability to give you a customized quote, so I will provide exact quotes upon your inquiry to me. People have differing needs, frequency of lessons, no. of family members, and goals, etc., so unlike a plumber quoting on Thumbtack, my pricing reflects your personal situation. If you're seeking online lessons, I can explain how those work, which for me is almost exactly like an in-person lesson; nothing is lost from using the online format. I give a limited number of need-based scholarships to promising students. Join the many thrilled parents and students that I've worked with, and let me take you to the next level very quickly and enjoyably with my positive, constructive teaching style.
-Pierce Emata
Most of all, I enjoy making a difference in students' lives, whether giving them a lifelong pastime of pleasure in playing the piano, or preparing students to be accepted into world class universities and graduate schools. I thrive on the human interaction, and inspiring students. I take great pleasure in my work, and every parent and student will affirm that.
