Introduction

I have been working in the IT industry for over 15 years and have expertise in all aspects of information technology. My expertise include the following: - servers (Windows server 2000, 2003, 2008, and Microsoft-exchange server 2000, 2003, and 2010) - Workstations (Windows NT, 2000, XP, and seven, Microsoft office 2003, 2007, 2010, and 2013)  - routers (Cisco 3900, 3800, and 3700 series routers) - switches (Cisco 2950, 3600, 3750, 4600, 4700, and 6500 series switches) - routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, RIP, RIPv2, and static) - network monitoring (SNMP, Solarwinds, and Whats Up Gold) - website development (HTML, CSS, PHP, javascript) - software development (Java) - database administration (SQL, Oracle) What I enjoy most about the IT industry is that every day is a new challenge. As an Information Technology Specialist in the U.S. Marine Corps, I have built networks that range anywhere from 50 users to up to 12,000 users utilizing different types of Cisco equipment such as routers, multi-layer switches, and firewalls. As a help desk technician, I have repaired several types of computers from companies such as Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Apple. Also, I have repaired several types of printers both local and networked, from companies such as HP, Brother, and Xerox. I have also had to build desktop and laptop computers, as well as servers. As a Systems Administrator, I have built domains and forests in a Windows 2000, 2003, and 2008 environment, to include both physical and virtual environments for Windows. I have also built Windows Exchange environments to provide electronic mail services to users. As a website developer, I have provided front end development for websites using HTML 5, CSS 3, PHP, and javascript. I also have some expertise in software development utilizing Java, and database administration using SQL in Oracle. My motto is "I'll work hard so that you don't have to". Any way I can make your job easier is my true satisfaction.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically, I like to meet with a new customer either by phone or in person to find out what the issue is that they are having. Specifically, to find out the events that led up to the issue, and to figure out the best way to help the customer.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have had formal training in network and systems administration from the United States Marine Corps. I am also finishing my Bachelors Science in Information Technology (expected graduation date Nov 2016.) The rest of my training is hands on experience throughout the years as an IT expert.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
While I was growing up, I always had a fascination with electronics. From how they worked to what makes them talk to each other. Realizing this aptitude towards electronics I became an IT technician in the military. From the time I joined the services in 2004 to the present, I have been in the IT industry.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with and still maintain work with a lot of different companies such as: United States Marine Corps, HTG, Compucom, Volt, VIASAT, Tip N Ring, and Vital Network Services.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
The latest project that I have been doing is for a non-profit organization in the San Diego area, who is called Loaves and Fishes. This local organization has been operating for over 20 years, and has never had an Internet presence. Upon the projects completion, the organization will have a full informational website to include a database of all its donors and inventory. This project is expected to be completed by July.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The best advice that I can give to a customer. Is to be as descriptive as possible with what their issue that they are having is. A great example of this would be performance issues with their computer. Instead of saying "my computer is slow", one could say "my computer is running slow after I downloaded something from the internet," or "I have had my computer for a few years, and noticed that my computer has been starting to take longer to respond." These types of details help providers assess the situation easier to give the customer the right type of service that they require. Another piece of advice that I would give a customer is to give the make and model of their computer as well. The reason for this is so that a provider can find if the issue that the customer is having is specific to that make and model. For example, if a customer is having a problem with their laptop when they press the power button, and the power lights blinks a certain amount of times. The reason for this light blinking is because it is a light code error that is specific to that manufacturer.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Here are some question that I believe will help both help both the customer and the provider. - What is the make and model of my computer? - Did I download or install something before this started happening? - Is my computer making any funny noises that it didn't before? - Can this be done remotely, or does it require someone to come to my location? - Will this project require materials or replacement parts? - What is their experience for this type of project? - How long do they estimate the project to be? These questions will help the provider with getting a good idea of what the project entails, and will give the customer an idea of what to expect. This way, both parties will be able to establish a good report with each other to complete the project.
