My twenty years of experience starting on a framing crew and moving to home renovations ensures jobs get done not just quickly but correctly the first time, saving homeowners both time and stress. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer discounts for first time clients, and lists of three or more tasks. I will work on Sundays for a premium if needed in the office by Monday.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I will read the job description and reach out to discuss your needs promptly. In many cases I can offer a quote right over the phone, in others I will need to see the space to make an estimate.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I was on a framing crew in high school and college. I also worked for a retired Army Green Beret turned home renovations business owner where I learned many important lessons about discovering the unexpected in walls and ceilings. I have always done my own renovations as well, including in an old 40's era home in a historic neighborhood of St. Louis which included a major kitchen refresh, ripping out carpet and restoring hardwood flooring, and replacing the vanity and cabinetry in three bathrooms.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I got started doing this type of work watching my grandfather come over to help my mother when I was little. He would always "pay me" for holding a flashlight or handing him tools while he worked. One day he handed me a wrench and told me I had a job I could do myself - fixing a leaky faucet. When the water stopped after I put it all back together, I was hooked!

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked mostly for older people needing a helping hand, busy households that can't find the time, and area contractors needing help to get a project completed on time.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Recently I installed all the knobs and pulls in the kitchen of a home in a 55 and older community. She was so happy with the results (see them in the pictures section) that she invited me to hang curtains in her living room and new mirrors in their bathroom. I think the kitchen pulls took me six hours to make the necessary measurements, drill the holes, and install the hardware.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would encourage them to ask questions about previous projects like the one they are looking to hire out - what the situation was, any problems they encountered, how they resolved them, and the end result.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

See above. Also, if the job requires any removal of paneling or other forms of coverage to fix or access the issue, ask yourself if you can afford a higher price for a longer lasting solution (think hidden water damage, bugs/wildlife, shoddy work done previously.) Otherwise, be prepared to discuss options to keep it within your budget including fixing it again later, or paying them to stop now for a reduced fee while you save to get it done right.
