Introduction

You want live music for your party or corporate event. Songs your guests know and love, played with soul, tailored to the flow of your event. At the perfect volume. Sound right? I’m your guy! You'll get an amazing experience, the sound of a full band, at less than half the cost. I can do this by "looping" guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and vocals in a fascinating solo performance. Nothing is pre-recorded, it's organic and engaging. I also do acoustic instrumental performances. Some clients want pretty, vibe-y instrumentals say, during a dinner or similar events. I can lean towards Latin-style music for this type occasion. CHECK OUT MY VIDEO in the "Featured Projects" section. It shows a range of material, and explains this whole looping thing! All my reviews are 5 stars - clients love my mix of songs, high quality musicianship and great vibe. I’m passionate about giving you a great performance, and I know how to “read the room.” I have a wide range of material: Classic Rock, R&B/Soul, Top 40, 80's, Blues... Rolling Stones, Clapton, Eagles, Joe Cocker, Commodores, Kool and the Gang, James Taylor, Steely Dan, Hall and Oates, The Band, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Michael McDonald, ELO, Bee Gee's, Springsteen, Bob Seger, Amy Winehouse, Pink Floyd, Santana, Dire Straits... I've performed with Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones) and Francine Reed (Lyle Lovett), and shared a stage with The Producers, Iron Butterfly (!) and other top acts. My songs have had airplay on almost every major Atlanta radio station, and I’ve played Atlanta's top venues: Fox Theatre, Georgia Aquarium, 2 Braves stadiums, Hard Rock Cafe, Buckhead Theatre and more. Call me, I'm easy to work with! Mike McLeod

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
When you hire me, you get the sound of a very professional full band, at a price no group of pros will touch! I do this by "looping" guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and vocals in a fascinating solo performance. Nothing pre-recorded, very organic. For guitars, I usually bring mandolin, lap steel, acoustic and electric, for a really rich sound.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Let's talk! I'll ask you about the flow of your event, age ranges, number of guests, the setting... I'll listen carefully, then work with you to tailor the pace and song list to be just right for your event. Most clients want a contract. I can send you a very clear and simple contract that ensures we're on the same page about date/time, location, payment etc. I make this step as easy as possible, so we can focus on the fun stuff. I'm flexible on the setting - I only need about 8x10 feet and one power outlet. I enjoy being right up in the crowd, if that's what you want! If you are putting me outside, please consider a backup location if the weather is not nice.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
For live performance, experience is the best training. After 45 years of performing live in many hundreds of gigs, I'm pretty good at reading a room and delivering a solid performance every time! I'm an accomplished musician - I've shared a stage with Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones), Francine Reed (Lyle Lovett), The Producers and more. My songs have had airplay on every top Atlanta radio station, and I’ve played most top Atlanta venues: Fox Theatre, Georgia Aquarium, SunTrust Park, Hard Rock Cafe, Buckhead Theatre and more.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started playing clubs in Orlando FL at the age of 15. I played in some very successful bands in college, touring the southeast. And during my adult life, I played in a successful cover band that played top venues throughout Atlanta. These experiences uniquely positioned me to provide you with a soulful performance of a curated body of music.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've played the full range of audiences, from intimate one-on-one settings, to very large venues and festivals with thousands of concert-goers. Most of my Thumbtack performances have been for small private parties.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently played 2 nights at Barnsley Gardens Resort for a very nice couple celebrating their wedding. First night was at Saylor Hall, for 3 hours, chill music at first, ramping up to full-on dance music. The second night was at the epic Ruins - wow! I played a vibey acoustic instrumental set for 1.5 hours. I want to go back!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Some things to consider: 1. Have you seen video, or at least audio, of their performance? 2. Do you know who you are getting, or are you being assigned someone from an agency? 3. Can they read the room, to pivot the material if needed, and do they have the breadth of material to do so? 4. Have they consulted with you on the flow of the event?

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
1. How many guests, age range, and type of music 2. Flow of event - "chill" music while you are having dinner, then ramp it up, or start right up in full party mode? 3. Location - I only need 10x10 feet (can do with less!). If outside, what's the backup plan if the weather is not nice? 4. Ask your pro - how well can they control the volume? Important! I can dial it back so people are talking right in front of me, to rock-the-house levels. 5. Is there a particular instrument you "must have" like saxophone or violin? I don't play those instruments, but can engage top talent for those instruments if needed. This would likely affect my quote.
