Introduction

NOW OFFERING LESSONS USING THE ZOOM APP!!! "Mr. Bob's Personal Philosophy/Mission Statement": Music is a language. We use language to communicate by sharing our ideas with others, learning ideas from other people by asking questions and coming together to create something greater than ourselves. So please feel free to strike up a conversation with me anytime and I'm sure we'll both learn quite a lot from each other :) I play a variety of instruments, play a variety of styles of music and teach students of all ages and skill levels. Although my main instruments are guitar, bass, piano, ukulele and drums. As per my business card: "Instrument and Music Theory Lessons for Students Of All Ages From Beginner To Advanced Levels" I enjoy everything about the work I do! I get to play music with and teach curious, motivated, talented students and in the process I generally learn something such as a new song, style of playing or way of teaching that I can then share with my other students. I also get to enjoy the hospitality of the clients and parents of students that I teach.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
$35 per 1/2 hour lesson; $50 for a 45-minute lesson and $60 for a 1-hour private instrument lesson house-call. It is the same for remote lessons.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The first thing is usually scheduling. Once we figure out a day and time that works for both of us, we are set. Some new clients request referrals or testimonials to verify my work history, which I am happy to pass along. I have many very satisfied clients who are more than happy to share their experience with me, with you! Occasionally, we have to try a few days and times before we get settled into a regular spot but that usually doesn't take long and then the time is yours indefinitely.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Moraine Valley Community College: Jazz combo, jazz big band, 2 1/2 years of music theory, guitar lessons, piano lessons. A.A. Elmhurst College: classical guitar ensemble, electric guitar ensemble, concert band (string bass), string band (3 semesters string bass, 1 semester viola), "Late Night Blues" vocal jazz group (electric bass guitar), jazz theory and improvisation, jazz keyboard, guitar lessons. Degree: N/A.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When I was a student at MVCC my guitar teacher (who owned a private lessons studio down the street from the college) asked me to "sub" for another teacher, which became a regular gig for me and the rest is history! :)

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
As a private lessons teacher most of my students are between the ages of 7 to about 20, but I have currently and have had in the past students as young as 5, including twins and siblings, as well as working adults and retirees. I have many clients where I teach 2 or 3 siblings and in some cases one or both of the parents as well. I teach to the students interests but also include reading music and practical to advanced music theory. I also rehearse students together for informal (and serious) groups or "rock bands".
