What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I have different entertainment packages I offer and depending on the package you select and the distance I have to travel depends on the fee I charge. But the fee I quote is the fee with everything included. There are no hidden fees that get tacked on. My fee will change if you decide to purchase additional items for giveaways. This usually pertains to children's parties.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once the new customer confirms they want to obtain my services I will ask them to send me their phone number and a good time for me to contact them. I will then fill out a booking form that takes about 5 minutes. I will write down all the necessary information for your event and answer any questions they may have.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

When I first started in magic I read a lot of books that taught me magic. I would take classes at my local magic shop and attend lectures by professional magicians. I have attended several magic conventions around the country keeping up with new and improved magical techniques and equipment.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been interested in magic since I was 7 years old. I always loved doing magic for my friends and family. My friends told me when I was 18 years old that I should perform magic for a living. I never thought there was actually people out there that would be interested in hiring a magician for their events. But I decided to give it a try and put a show together and did my first payed show at the age of 19 and have been performing professionally since 1986.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with all types of customers. Mom's and Dad's hiring for their child's birthday party, first communion, etc. Cub Scout Groups for their Blue & Gold Banquets Girl Scout Groups Corporate Events for their Christmas Parties, Sales Meetings, Picnics, etc. Fairs and Festivals School Events for elementary school assemblies, Red Ribbon, Rec Nights, High School Post Proms, Fund Raisers Church Events for Senior Banquets, Vacation Bible School, etc. Retirement Homes Clubs and so much more

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I remember when I was young my friends and I would play outside. We would play hide and seek, kick the can, tag etc. We would go to the park and play baseball, kickball, football. We would ride our bikes camp out in the backyard, etc. We did not stay in the house playing video games all day and watch television. I developed a program where kids could come and learn magic. The type of magic that I learned when I was first starting out. It teaches them dexterity, social skills, how to feel a sense of accomplishment. It gives kids who might not feel popular in school the confidence that they can do something that others can't do or don't know how to do. I have witnessed kids later that have improved their grades and gained more friends because they are now confident talking and entertaining their peers. And their peers give them the encouragement and recognition by saying things like that was cool, how did you do that, you are magic etc. This concept took me a year to organize. I just felt with all the bullying in school and low self esteem that kids develop today this would be a great program. Being able to help kids learn a craft who aren't always accepted so they will be able to feel good about their selves and be able to continue to build the confidence they need to succeed in life.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask for references and if they can't or won't provide you with some don't engage with this entertainer. Make sure that the material the performer will be performing is age appropriate for your group. A true professional will find out everything they need to know about your event so they can make it as easy for you as possible and make it memorable for your guests. A true professional will find out what your needs are and provide you with the solutions to make your event a huge success. Do not hire on price alone. Remember the old adage (you get what you pay for).

Have you performed for this age group before? Do you have any reviews and or references? How long have you been performing professionally? Do you use audience participation? What type of magic will my guests see? What is included in the price and are there any hidden fees? Do you have Entertainment Insurance? Do you offer a Satisfaction Guarantee? How long is your performance? Do we need to supply anything? What types of payment do you accept?
