Introduction

“We love your sound!” – “What a great mix of music!” – that’s what our clients say over and over! Midwest Mixtape offers a great variety of live music options to fit your event’s needs. We play crowd favorite popular music from the 60s through Today’s Hits, as a duo, full band, or saxophone soloist. Contact us today to discuss how we can make your event unforgettable! Midwest Mixtape Duo is a unique guitarist/drummer combo that sounds like a full band! We play your choice of genres – rock, pop, and/or country – and our song list has excellent variety, ranging from Stevie Wonder to Matchbox 20 and Harry Styles, Fleetwood Mac to Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift. One half of our Duo, Matt, is also an incredible professional saxophonist that plays all kinds of events as a soloist or with a DJ-- weddings, receptions, corporate events, and more. Midwest Mixtape is a husband-wife team, Matt & Laura Lee Crandall-- and we LOVE being able to make our customers' events memorable and remove any stress associated with hiring live music. We can help with event planning, we take care of all our own sound needs, and always customize our set lists to create just the mood you are wanting to set at your event. We both have our music degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and pride ourselves on being professional and easy to work with, whether we're the main event or background music setting the mood. Some notable performances and venues Matt and/or Laura Lee have had the honor of performing at: -Sporting KC National Anthem 2024 -Celebration at the Station 2023 -Garmin Air Show 2022 and 2023 -KC Live! Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our duo fee for private parties starts at $1000 and includes all sound and lighting needs. We also have the option of adding more performers for a full band.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We like to start with a phone call or email to find out all the details of your event, what type of music you are looking for, what the venue is like, and answer any questions you may have! We want to put your mind at ease, knowing you're hired a reliable professional that you and your guests will love. For weddings, we can meet in person to talk through music choices if the couple prefers that.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Laura Lee has a Bachelor's in Music Performance and Matt has his Bachelor's and a Masters in Music Education from UMKC Conservatory of Music. We have been performing for 20 years!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with a large variety of customers! Event and Corporate planners, wedding couples, people hosting parties of all kinds-- retirements, anniversaries, baby showers, birthdays, holiday parties, quinceaneras, etc. I've worked with businesses for professional events and special promotions, and many non-profits hosting fund-raisers.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for someone who wants to make your event a success! Do they listen to what mood you are going for and adjust their set list accordingly? Do they have lots of experience and good reviews? Are they flexible and easy to work with? The answer to all should be "yes!"

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Do you have a set day and time already set? Where is the event? Where will the musician perform inside the venue? How big of a space do you have for them, and how much space do they need? Will a sound system be needed, and does the professional provide it? How long do you want them to play, what will be the start and stop time?
