What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Every event is different. Factors such as length, equipment requirements, geographic location, song requests etc. can all have an effect on pricing, so I will send you a custom quote once I get the basic info about the event you're planning.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

After you contact me on Thumbtack, I will get back to you ASAP to answer your questions and gather some more information from you about the event. Once we've worked out the details, I will send you a booking agreement and request a 50% deposit to confirm the booking. Then we can stay in touch leading up to the date of the event about things like song request, arrival time, etc.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I grew up playing in a family band with my dad and older siblings. We were performing out in town for as long as I can remember. II went on to minor in music at Bates College, but most of my relevant experience has been from playing in bands and performing solo throughout my life.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

For many years, I was much more focussed on recording and performing my original music (under the artist name Sawyer Lawson ). Some private event gigs would occasionally fall in my lap, and I realized that I really enjoyed playing covers at private events as well!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently played a really fun surprise 40th birthday party! Three hours of live music. I got some guidance ahead of time on the musical tastes of the guy who's birthday it was, so he was thrilled to hear some of his favorite artists and songs.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would suggest first looking at a musician's videos to get an idea of whether your musical tastes align with their style. And then I would look to the reviews on their profile to make sure that they are professional, communicative, reliable, and nice to work with. And don't hesitate to provide as much detail as you want to the musician. The more info we have on what you're looking for, the better! If there is anything particularly important to you about the musical entertainment (i.e. you want to make sure it's not too loud so that guests can converse with each other comfortably, or maybe you want an energetic performance that guests can dance to, or you would like access to a microphone for some toasts/speeches), just say so and a good musician for hire should be able to accommodate or let you know what they can or can't provide.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Some good things to consider right from the start: Length of performance Location (indoors vs outdoors, under a tent or not) Will there be access to a power outlet (if not I do have a battery-powered sound system) Any specific genre, artist, or song requests
