Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I mostly teach at my in-home music studio in Fairfax Va, however I will travel to select students for an additional $10 up to 15 miles away from the 22033 area code. No complicated pricing system. Simply the hourly rate, paid each lesson in cash, check or paypal. No formal commitments needed unless you would like to reserve a specific time slot each week and you only need to pay for one lesson at a time. Students do not need to pay for a block of lessons up front like most music stores.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First I start with a phone conversation to get an idea of what a particular client is looking for in terms of wanting to learn guitar. What types of motivation is driving them to wish to start to learn, followed by a brief discussion in the types of music that they would like to play. After comparing schedules we will find a mutual time to start for a first try a lesson, in which we further get to know one another and I assess what type of background a potential student might have in regards to music. If a student has had any prior learning with Guitar I will find out what skills they have to improve upon and if a student is a total beginner, I start them from step one to build the foundation to get them playing as fast as possible. i'll take an assessment of the types of style and learning method that each particular student seems suited the best for as well as understanding their specific initiatives in terms of how fast they want to be able to be playing at a certain level, and take into consideration how much time they will have to dedicate to practicing so that I can better help assist them in their time outside of our lessons.

Make sure you do your research and ask the instructor as many questions as you can. And suggest a possible meeting before committing to a series of lessons.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Prospective students should ask what type of teaching methods their instructors like to use, ask about what type of teaching materials, books or any other supplemental material that is used during lessons. And students should definitely talk with any perspective instructor as to the types of music that they ultimately would like to learn, and how far they would like to take their playing in terms of beginning or intermediate levels, or any other specific goals that they might have in mind.
