Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We have all been in the wedding and corporate events space for 10+ years and our pricing reflects that. Our duo starts at $1600. Please be aware of that before reaching out.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically the customer will email us to start the conversation. We'll then schedule a quick call to go over specifics. From there, we will issue a contract and take a 50% deposit to hold the date. Any questions and follow up calls are welcomed once the date is confirmed. The balance is due on the day of the performance.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
The members of Neon Lighthouse studied music at Berklee College of Music, Wagner College and Boston University. Most of us have at least 20+ years of musical training and started performing and learning our instruments when we were in elementary school. We are highly trained and skilled musicians who can each play multiple instruments and all sing lead vocals.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
The members of Neon Lighthouse have always been performers and musicians. We were born for this. Most of us have worked in the wedding and corporate events industry for 10+ years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Typically there are 3 types of clients we work with. - Wedding couples that want music for ceremony, cocktail hour and/or reception. We perform as a duo and with up to an 8 piece band - Corporate event planners that need music entertainment for their specific events and parties. - Private party clients. These are typically celebrations like graduations, milestone birthday parties or just an excuse to get together with friends. Usually, we will perform in the client's home. Sometimes the client will rent a venue for the party. We're open to whatever the client decides. Previous Neon Lighthouse clients and venues include Beth Isreal, Fenway Park, The Boston Marathon, Lansdowne, Rosecliff Mansion, The Bohlin, Regatta Place, Belle Mer, Tower Hill Botanic Garden, Myopia Hunt Club, Ochre Court, The Seaport Hotel, Matadora, Thompson Island, Turner Hill Mansion, Peaks Island, Viking Hotel, Chocksett Inn, Popponessett Inn, Newport Beach House, Wianno Club, Shining Tides, Club at New Seabury, The Bay Club, The Bradley Estate, Margate Resort, Weekapaug Golf Club, Hawthorne Hotel and more.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We don't take bookings more than 6 months in advance. A lot of our bookings are done within 3 months to 1 week prior to an event. Our favorite recent booking was the BAA Fan Fest for the Boston Marathon. We got to perform in Copley Square during Boston Marathon weekend and it was a blast!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
‍Be aware of the wedding industry's trend, "the staffing agency." At their core, they're basically like booking the Uber of wedding bands. These 'bands' book a dozen events each day using the same band name, but are simply sending randomly available musicians (drivers) to your wedding to patch a "band" together. IE; the band seen in their videos/photos may not be the band who shows up on your wedding day. ‍ On the flip, our upfront approach to wedding entertainment provides consistent 5-star results, with a wedding band of consistent musicians. We rarely sub out of gigs, so what you see is what you get! Everyone has the same Best of/Choice Awards: ‍How many times have you seen a wedding band advertising : “We’re the best of Boston” with the exact same badges as a dozen other bands in town? There’s nothing wrong with displaying a shiny badge on a website, though candidly speaking, the major wedding websites hand them out like candy. Truth is, as long as you receive a certain amount of reviews each year, these wedding websites are happy to give you an award for redirecting the website traffic back to them. Absolute brilliant marketing strategy… *golf clap*. How much do wedding bands cost? In terms of a budget, wedding bands can vary in size as well as packages offered. It also depends on the 'vibe' you're looking for. Are you looking to throw an all night rager with a band, or a chill jazz evening? Pro Tip: One huge factor when comparing your options, is to evaluate your vendor costs on a per-person scale. We absolutely agree, planning a feast of $300 per person with 8 different hors d'oeuvres is impressive. When put on that playing field, our services quote in ~$60-70 per person range for an average size wedding! As a result, even a shift of $10 per person (IE; one less cocktail hors d'oeuvre) could make the difference between hiring a simple band vs having a exquisitely produced party for your guests. :)

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
The client should know their budget and confirm the venue where the event will take place before contacting us. We're flexible, but these details help move the booking process along faster.
