Introduction

We are CJ Live, an electric (or acoustic) music duo/trio, incorporating vocals, backup vocals, guitar, keyboard, and drums (trio) or drum beats (duo), playing a wide range of songs from all genres. From the 1920’s to today, pop, rock, punk, jazz, r&b, soul, Motown, and more. If you’re looking for even more sound, we can bring a bigger band, but our trio rocks pretty hard (just check out our videos!) Let us know your needs and we will make it happen, our goal is to provide everything you want without any stress!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For our duo, the base price is $200 an hour. We may have to add to that due to travel distances. For the trio, base price is $300 an hour. And if we add any more musicians, it would go up from there.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We find out as much as we can about your event with a questionnaire. This will tell us everything we need to understand your event and exactly what you’re looking for. We’ll always give our new clients our phone numbers and email, so you can reach out to us any time about anything!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Jeff has been studying bass and guitar for over 20 years, and Crystal has been studying voice for over 15 years. Both of us have spent years playing in bands, all kinds of events and locations. And both of us teach music as well!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Both of us (Crystal and Jeff) have spent their lives in music, playing in bands, teaching, and in musical theatre. We love music and bringing people joy at their events, and it only made sense to do it together!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All kinds! Our music list covers a lot of genres and time frames, so we do well at lots of events. And we’re always willing to learn what we don’t already know!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We’re always happy to provide entertainment at any event, but recent favorite of ours was an engagement party. As a married couple, we love celebrating love, and what better way than that?! They requested a bunch of songs they wanted to hear, and that they knew their families would love, and we learned what we didn’t know. We could tell how much fun everyone was having from the dancing and singing along, and we were so happy to be a part of it!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Talk with them about your event. Make sure they understand what you’re looking for and can take as much stress off you as possible. Ask the questions that you have, like song requests, set breaks, speeches, announcements, anything that you need to happen during the event.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Thumbtack does a great job of setting up the questions that should be thought about. Budget, type of music, length of time (that can be more flexible), day and time of event, and general location. It’s totally fine to reach out without some of the answers if you’re in the early stages of planning!
