Introduction

When not on the road playing drums for Texas legend Pat Green, Michael Kelton loves to entertain crowds with country music sing alongs, and weave road-worn story telling with original songwriting in the true Texas troubadour fashion. Michael can provide anywhere from a solo acoustic performance, up to lively trio performance with Lone Star Gentry, featuring the acoustic guitar, fiddle, dobro, and harmony vocals.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My minimum fee for a two-hour solo acoustic set is $600. Weekend rates average $1K for solo, $1750 for duo, and $2500 for the Lone Star Gentry trio. Because each event is different, I happy to provide you a custom quote for your entertainment needs.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I usually like to have a quick conversation to determine all of the specifics of your event and then make a recommendation as to how I can best serve you and your guests. Once you've determined that I'm a good fit, I will issue a contract and collect a 50% deposit to hold the date. Any remaining balance will be due on the day of the performance.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've been performing live for over 28 years! For the past 10 years, in addition to being a full-time touring drummer, I've performed as a singer-songwriter at music venues, festivals, and private events. I have a large catalog of country music covers, as well as originals that have been feature on the BMI Texas Ten playlist, and recorded by Texas legend Pat Green.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I grew up in a musical family, raised by my father who was a founding member of the Texas show band Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's. I began playing music at 8-years-old, performing live at 10, and touring full-time at 21.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've been hired to perform in almost every setting imaginable, from traditional venues and festivals to weddings, birthdays and corporate events.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
My favorite recent project is the latest release from Texas Country legend Pat Green, "Miles and Miles of You." Not only did I get to play drums on this record, but I have two writing credit on the record as well.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would suggest reviewing live footage of the artist to make sure their sound and material is right for your event.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
The client should know their budget and confirm the venue where the event will take place before contacting me. I'm flexible, but these details help move the booking process along faster.
