Introduction

A summer road trip with windows down and radio blaring. A midnight dance party in your kitchen. That song you listened to 6,000 times on your ipod as a teenager. Radio Retrograde feels kind of like that.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our pricing is based around an hourly rate per musician but is not set in stone. Reach out to us with questions and we'll see if we can work something out.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Upon booking, we need to have details of the gig, including the type of event, location, time and date, duration and budget. Our band leader, Alicia, usually likes to make a consultation call to get all the details figured out but if you prefer to work with us via email we can do that too. If you have specific songs you would like to request you can choose from our song list on our website as well as request two songs not listed for the band to learn.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Each member of Radio Retrograde is a full-time musician and has studied music collegiately. They are all respected music instructors in their communities and maintain a full schedule of students. Members also actively perform at different venues and events all around Utah with various bands.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Alicia (bass and vocals) and Richard (drummer) are married and they found themselves playing in a lot of cover bands for different events. They decided to make their own group so they could play the music that they really loved together. They got together with a good friend of theirs, Devin Moore (guitar and vocals) to start arranging songs. If the three of them were going to play in a cover band they wanted their songs to be special and unique. So they went to work creatively restructuring popular songs that they all loved. Now they have a long list that they cover, all with a fresh and unique sound

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently played at a celebration of life party in Utah. It was an intimate event with family and friends in a back yard. The woman that hired us was very nice and accommodating and everyone at the event had fun dancing and singing along with us. It took us about 30 minutes to set up and we performed for about two hours, with some speeches and other activities in the middle. All told, from setup to tear down we were probably there for a total of 4-5 hours

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure to think carefully about what type of event you are doing and how the music will add or take away from it. Live music has a powerful impact on events and if you hire a group that matches the energy/theme/mood of the event it can really elevate it.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the purpose of the event? (wedding, party, etc) What is your budget? How big of a sound do you want? What is the mood of the event? How many people will be attending the event? Will there be food provided for guests and musicians? Where the band will be set up - is there power nearby? How long do you want the band to be playing at your event? Is the event outdoors or indoors? How would you like the band to be dressed? (formal, casual, etc) Where will the band be stationed during their breaks? Is there a sound ordinance in the area where the event will be taking place? What kind of lighting would you like around the band?
