Introduction

Codey Lee James blends alternative R&B and neo soul with poetic depth and vintage textures, creating a sound that lives between introspection and groove. Perfect for chill R&B and indie soul lounges, his music evokes late-night calm and quiet emotional clarity. The Codey Lee James trio performs both covers and original songs. Fans of Mac Ayres, Alicia Keys, Robert Glasper, and D'Angelo will resonate with Codey’s velvet harmonies, jazz-infused chords, and thoughtful lyricism. His songs move between smoky grooves and soulful falsettos, drawing from gospel roots, jazz education, and a deep love for emotional storytelling. From piano lessons at age five to directing choirs and arranging harmonies in college, Codey’s journey has always centered around translating real life into resonant, metaphoric sound. With over 200k streams across platforms and features in V13 Magazine, his concept album Ithaca reimagines Homer’s Odyssey through a modern, musically diverse lens. He recently signed with Rexius Records and is preparing a string of new singles and a follow-up album in 2025. Whether reflecting on power, selfhood, or simply lighting up a smoky evening with friends, Codey Lee James invites listeners into a space where sound breathes, stories matter, and soul meets thought.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We're a 3-piece band, and to ensure that each of us earns a fair wage, we generally charge somewhere around $150 per hour.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We set up a quick phone call to discuss the details of your event. I'll ask you a list of pre-written questions to help me ascertain the size of the event and what equipment we need to bring.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've been playing music professionally since I was 12 years old (I'm now 28). Started lessons at age 5.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started out playing keys for churches every Sunday, and things have grown since then.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All types - corporate, nonprofit, religious, birthday parties, pubs/bars, outdoor venues & festivals.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Really think about the quality of music you want for your event, as well as the genre. For example, I've been to outdoor festivals where the intended atmosphere did not match the vibe of the artist on stage. You want to make sure that the band you hire for the job is good for the age range and music taste of you attendees.
