Introduction

I've been playing in bands professionally all my adult life and over this time I have played just about all kinds of music. I decided that if I was going to have my own band that it was going to be top notch all the way because the main thing is for us and the clients to have a blast. In this band we focus a lot on the Classic R&B dance music as sung by our world class female vocalist. But our backgrounds are broad enough that we play just about everything. We also play a lot of classic rock in the band and with a little different line-up we also play a lot of jazz gigs. And in addition to that, my background and circle of professional friends makes it so that I can provide first class music to fit just about any situation. I enjoy working with a tight band full of phenomenal players and the reaction of the crowd when they get up and dance or go nuts because they didn't expect it. I like it when clients tell me that we made their wedding or event something really special. Having a great band like this has given us great opportunities. Some of the places we played are: The Space Needle, The Salish Lodge, The Sculpture Park, The Seattle Aquarium, and we are regulars at the 13 Coins and the Edgewater Hotel.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Pricing depends on the type of venue and event and could vary depending on travel and lodging costs, number of players, and extra production.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I talk to them on the phone and find out what their needs and budget are.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have been playing professionally since 1971 and have had my own band for 6 years. Since I've played in hundreds of bands and thousands of stages, I can almost always provide any music that people want.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I always studied music in school and decided that I was going to be a musician when I was 15. I joined my first band when I was 19 and I was lucky that it just so happened to be a working band. I have been working ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have several clubs that we play on a regular basis to keep the band working and tight but we formed the band for the private party and wedding market. We have played some casinos and we are working on getting more into that market. We play a little bit different music depending on the type of venue. The casinos and dance clubs get thumping dance shows. The restaurants and concerts are a little different and geared more for entertainment. Weddings and private parties are geared more for what the customers want. If they want jazz we will bring a little bit different line-up.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Since this site is to promote this particular band, I will say that it took a year to find the players that clicked. We have had this line-up for 6 years. It continually gets better. Right now we are working on expanding our song list to accommodate the new dance clubs and casinos.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would say aim for the best quality group you can get for your budget that plays the music that appeals to you. Listen to a live recording or video. That way you know exactly what you are getting. It doesn't hurt to see them play live if you can.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Think of what you want from the band and what the band is going to need for the venue. Do you need lights? Production? Is the venue so far that you will need to provide lodging? If it's a wedding, do you need MC services, what about dinner music, milling around music or ceremony music? How do you want the band to be dressed? These are all things to consider.
