Introduction

We effectively test and remove the harmful, colorless, odorless radioactive gas known as radon from peoples homes providing a healthier home environment. Moreover, we have indoor air filtration systems that can help to eliminate other smells and environmental concerns within the building envelope. Lastly, our team can effectively repair or replace existing sump pumps and discharge systems including freshwater, submersible sump pumps and battery backup sump systems. We thoroughly enjoy creating a safer living environment for new and existing home owners. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, so every home we mitigate helps to prevent the negative effects of radon in our customers homes.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Every home and radon mitigation system we design is custom and unique. We custom design each system based on the building construction of the home or commercial property to ultimately help effectively mitigate radon gas but also protect the aesthetics of the property and keep the residual costs of operating a radon mitigation system (energy penalty) as low as possible. Please call for a price estimate.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We will do a free consultation. Some consultations can be done over the phone, and some are done on site at your location. From there, we email a formal estimate and go over a time that works best with your schedule. Depending on the different variables included in your estimate to install your radon mitigation system, on average, most installs take between 2-4 hours to complete. More complex jobs can take longer. Once your system is installed, we leave a test to ensure that the your new radon mitigation system has effectively and significantly reduced the radon levels in your home.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We are certified through The National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) which serves as the credentialing and certification division of AARST and is recognized as the nation’s leading certification program for radon professionals. Moreover, we have a professional plumbing licensure to ensure we adhere to all codes relating to sump pump repair and replacement.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
We started doing this type of work when we tested our own home. The kids would play in the basement often and we tested our home to ensure they were safe. When we found out the levels were elevated, we looked into having a mitigation system put in the home. At that time (1997), there were not too many licensed mitigators in the state of Wisconsin and so we taught ourselves how to properly install radon mitigation systems. Our neighbors saw our quality work and what we were doing, and asked if we could help test and mitigate their homes. After doing more than 80 homes in the surrounding neighborhood our first year in business (1998) Lifetime Radon Solutions, Inc. was born. At the present time, we do more than 2,500 residential radon mitigation systems throughout the state of Wisconsin per year!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with customers from a multitude of different backgrounds, with a variety of different goals and we work with building/property types of all construction styles and sizes. In our over 25+ years of business, we have never come across a home or commercial building that we couldn't mitigate!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
While we mitigate over 2,500 residential homes annually in the state of Wisconsin, some of our most advanced work is done on commercial properties. We have mitigated countless school districts, government buildings, military bases, hospitals and other commercial properties. Because of the sheer size and complexity of these types of structures, our team is quite fond of these projects!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Hire a contractor that is not only certified through AARST and the NRPP but also a contractor that considers all of the important and critical aspects of installing a quality radon mitigation system. That is, installing a radon mitigation system that is not only effective in reducing radon levels to as low as reasonably achievable, but also a system that looks good (protects the aesthetics of the home) and a mitigation system that is designed to be cost effective in terms of residual costs (energy penalty) as the system runs continuously. Moreover, choose to work with a company and organization that has seen a lot of different property/construction styles as every home is so vastly different from not just a building construction aspect but also a building envelope science perspective as well. Lastly, work with a company that utilizes a licensed electrical contractor as this is a very important aspect of installing a proper mitigation system. Many, if not most, radon mitigation contractors in Wisconsin do not properly pull an electrical permit or use a licensed electrical contractor which leaves you (and the contractor) open to a lot of safety and legal liability.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Customers should know some basic information about their home like: 1.) What is the age of the home? 2.) Do you have a sump pump system? 3.) What style of foundation do you have (slab-on-grade, basement, tri-level, etc.) 4.) What type of heating/HVAC system does the property have?
