I am a retired university professor; I have a Ph.D. in measurement and evaluation (the degree for those who make the SAT/ACT/ASVAB etc.) and a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology (so I also help students with memory tricks, time management, and to overcome test anxiety).
I make learning fun. I have a number of tricks and tips that help students learn faster while at the same time making them smile. I think of ways that the student will eventually use the information in real life too. This way, their brain will retain what they learn.
I love seeing the light bulb go on over someone's head. They have just had an "ah-hah" moment and that gives me a charge.
