Introduction

I have 37 years experience developing voices at every level from beginner to professional. Many of my students are performing across the country, throughout the state of Indiana, and in every musical style. I play the piano at an advanced level which many voice teachers do not offer; this allows my students to receive not only vocal technique training but vocal coaching of songs/repertoire as well - all in the same lesson. I also have experience teaching every age, from 5 to over 80. I have singers who are rank beginners and many who sing at the highest levels — professionals in opera, musical theatre, and popular bands — and everything in between. I appreciate them all! What I enjoy the most: Building confidence and skills in singers and watching them develop their natural talents; seeing my students beam when they achieve more than they thought possible - the before and after stories are remarkable.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I offer exceptional training and vocal coaching for all ages and levels. I offer four-lesson discount sets which are the best value.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I do an assessment lesson with them in which I discuss with them their musical and vocal goals and I get to know them and we devise a plan for their vocal development. Often a new student will take a set of four lessons with me and then we will be able to more fully determine the potential direction and growth going forward.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have three degrees in vocal performance including the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance and pedagogy. I’ve also had extensive post doctoral work and continue to learn and develop my skills as a teacher and singer. I have 33 years as a voice teaching professional.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After singing professionally as an opera and concert singer and teaching voice at several universities for several years, I decided to devote my energies to private voice teaching to all ages at my Indiana studios.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Ages 5 through 84. All levels from novice beginners to high level professional singers. I’ve taught an estimated 700+ singers, many of whom are performing throughout Indiana and across the country. My students come from diverse backgrounds (culturally and musically) and many occupations (from students to entrepreneurs, from health professionals to truck drivers, from singer-song writers to choral and opera singers, from preteens to retirees). I’ve coached many genres from pop styles to musical theatre and opera. I enjoy all my students and I always aim to put my students and their goals first.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Our annual voice studio spring recital 2019. 21 of my students performed and it was a big success! Very proud of my students!!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for a voice teacher with experience, technical knowledge and skills, who is personable and a good fit for you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Their musical goals: one, two, five years down the road. What styles they are most interested in and their background in music.
