How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I served active duty in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) from July 1998 - July 2001. The Marine Corps motto is "Semper Fidelis" latin for Always Faithful, which is the influence of the Business Name. While the disciplines of the Marines are far fetched from the world of Taxes, my service in the USMC allowed me the opportunity to take advantage of the educational benefits awarded for serving Honorably. As a Veteran, I went through transitional classes where I was counseled to look for a vocational certificate program. I chose accounting certificate program when I began my college education. Since I excelled in the subject, I ultimate chose it as my major in pursuit of my undergrad.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A recent project I am extremely fond of is helping out a fellow Marine Veteran settle her back taxes and giving her a second chance at life. She came to me as a referral. Her problem was being in debt with the IRS for over $20k ( $20,000!!!). She initially hired another firm, that ignored her calls, emails and stuck her with a $400 per month Installment Plan with the IRS, in which she was not able to afford. When I reviewed her current situation: Single mom, self employed, with 2 children >>> I saw the potential for a Settlement with the IRS. I assisted with 2 years of delinquent self employed taxes, provided the accounting service, and sure enough, calculated the IRS would likely consider an offer of $100 to wipe out the debt ( offer in compromise) We submitted the offer in compromise, where I was in contact with the IRS as her power of attorney ( Enrolled Agent - 2848) When the agent assigned reviewed all the information, the offer was accepted. The whole process took approximately 11 months to complete, where my client felt she has her life back! It was truly rewarding to have such a huge impact on my clients life!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would recommend to see how well the provider may communicate with the client. Such as do the communicate by email or text. Are the providers LICENSED. To be represented with the IRS with unlimited restrictions requires one of the following: Enrolled Agent ( EA), Attorney or CPA. In addition, be honest with your provider with your current situation, this way the provider can provide a pricing structure. A great question to ask a provider if they charge additional fees, and how they may apply.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It is great to communicate with a company prior to any engagement. Goal would be to determine their qualifications, gauge for honesty, and have a radar for Good Vibes ( Or Bad Vibes). The following to The Following Questions are great to ask: -Are you Licensed? ( the answer should be : YES!) -What are your Fees? -Are there any additional Fees? -Do you share documents through a client portal? -Can you work remotely with me? -Can I e-Sign the documents? -Do you love you clients?
