I can't tell you how many times I've heard this from clients. Accountants or bookkeepers who get in over their heads and take on too many clients and don't have time to provide stellar customer service. I use a work planning tool that allows me to see exactly how much time I have available for new clients. I also provide realistic timeline expectations for larger cleanup projects so that my work for my existing clients does not suffer. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing is customized to your needs. Accounting services are not one size fits all and many areas in Thumbtack require a price to be listed but don't really reflect the work the client is seeking. Most of my pricing is project based rather than by the hour. My pricing is fully transparent and you will have a detailed listing of services included in the scope of work. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to start with a short discovery phone call to get to know each other and make sure my services fit your needs and also that you fit my customer profile. This call can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes depending on your needs and availability. I typically work fully remotely and find that it saves my clients a ton of time and effort. We work together through a secure online portal which allows for messaging and file sharing. I don't take on more new clients than I have the bandwidth to provide stellar service to.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in 2013. I was an accounting/finance executive for nearly 10 years in the healthcare and construction industries primarily. I have years of experience in roles such as Controller, Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Director. I am a Certified Management Accountant as well as a Certified Exit Planning Advisor.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started out doing bookkeeping for small trades contractors and fell in love with accounting. Since then I've pursued my passion and advanced my education and experience. I find joy in providing financial clarity to small business owners.

What types of customers have you worked with?

My clients are mostly small business owners in construction trades, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, service, and transportation industries.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

One of my favorite things to do is get your books caught up. A typical cleanup project is anywhere from 6 months to a year of unfinished or messy bookkeeping. Most cleanup projects are complete within 3 weeks of our first contact.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure the professional you are speaking with has clear terms and conditions and can illustrate exactly what services are provided in the price you're being quoted. Too often services overlap and accounting professionals aren't clear about when a service isn't included in their scope of work. I pride myself on transparent communication. My goal is never to have a client have to reach out to me looking for an update because they receive consistent and predictable updates from me throughout our engagement.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

A couple of questions I ask all of my potential clients are: "How will you use the information that I prepare for you. How will my work make your life easier?" "What did your last accountant do for you that you absolutely need me to do for you? "How could your last accountant have provided better service or outcomes?"
