Introduction

We are a woman owned and operated accounting business. We offer a variety of services such as contracted bookkeeping, accounting, payroll and more. We have been in business since 2010. We are QuickBooks ProAdvisor certified. We have continually added to our experience in the tax field. We participate in the voluntary IRS Annual Filing Season Program. This is a program designed by the IRS for paid tax preparers that aspire to a higher level of professionalism. One of our employees is an enrolled agent (EA). This means she is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels—examination, collection, and appeals—of the Internal Revenue Service. Referrals available upon request. We enjoy helping new and small businesses get a handle on their financials and utilize these to grow and succeed. Each business brings their own unique challenges that continues to make our job interesting.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When talking or meeting with a new client, we like to get a high level summary of where they are at and where they would like to be in the next 2-5 years. We also like to know what they were dissatisfied with in the past. This helps us to plan for a successful future while exceeding their expectations of service that accounting professionals have provided them previously.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have my A.S in Accounting and am currently pursuing my B.S in Accounting. I participate in the voluntary IRS Annual Filing Season Program. This is a program designed by the IRS for paid tax preparers that aspire to a higher level of professionalism. We also have an Enrolled Agent and CPA on staff. Enrolled agents are individuals who have demonstrated technical competence and professional ethics to the Treasury Department and have been granted enrollment to unlimited practice rights before the Internal Revenue Service.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started by doing basic accounting with Quickbooks in a retail setting. This transitioned into a job managing a small construction office and doing all their bookkeeping. I realized that it would be more time and cost efficient to do this as an independent contractor. From there, it was a natural move to other accounting services such as payroll and tax preparation.

What types of customers have you worked with?

We have worked with a variety of industries. A brief list consists of: restaurants/delicatessens, architects, engineers, interior decorators, construction management, HVAC, plumbing, painting, investigative services, online retail startups, etc. We also do personal bookkeeping. We do cost analysis for persons who want to get a handle on their spending.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Not all bookkeepers understand accounting, just as not all accountants understand the practical application of bookkeeping. Too many times, our clients come to us for help after they realize they put their trust in someone who didn't truly know what they were doing. It is more than knowing how to enter expenses and make payments or reconciling accounts.
