Introduction

You are the best at what you do, that is why you went into business for yourself. Just like I am. I started out in restaurants as a cook/dishwasher when I was younger and most of my bosses have been small business. That is why when I received my degree and entered into the world of business, I decided to become the best small business accountant I could. I will help you come up with the unique ideas needed to help you compete with the big guys, but without charging you what they do and at a budget you can afford. I am willing to work locally or remotely in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My pricing system is based on the level of service required and the estimated amount of time it is going to take to complete the service. For example a 1040 itemized return with one state return is going to cost less than a 1040 itemized return with one state, 5 rental properties and 10 investments. A bookkeeping client who wants me to take care of their payroll needs can expect to pay more than someone who does not have a payroll.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to sit down and have a conversation with my new client. I want to make sure I understand their business inside and out, so we can better determine the best way for me to assist them in being successful.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have an MBA in Accounting and have been an accountant/bookkeeper since 2000, Since I have spent most of my career helping small business, I have the unique ability to create cost effective solutions so they can compete with their much bigger competitors. I am also a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have wanted to own my own small business since I was old enough to know I couldn't be Superman for a living but I did not know what I wanted to do in said business. When I entered high school, they offered accounting courses and figured I should take them that would give me a leg up regardless of which industry I ultimately decided to work in.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Most of my clients are bookkeeping clients. This means I enter and pay bills, enter receipts, record deposits (and make them as well) and month end close. This is in addition to preparing their taxes and taking care of their payroll (Full service payroll including direct deposit and vacation tracking)

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
There are so many unique situations when you deal with someone who is new to the small business world. So many people are great at what they do but ignore that part time job as a bookkeeper when they hang their shingle up. One that stands out for me is a guy who wanted to start a restaurant and had zero professional cooking experience. He decided to hold off until he could work a couple of months/years in a restaurant under someone else. To me, this is more important than getting an actual client because I am giving him a stronger footing before he gets in and fails.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Sit down and have a one on one meeting with the accountant. You should feel comfortable asking them questions, without feeling like a burden, and also comfortable with their answer. While many of us have similar education and experience levels, we do not all have the same personality (or lack there of).

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
There are many accountants to choose from at a wide variety of billing rates and experience. Most of firms you are reviewing on Thumbtack (and elsewhere) are more than likely have the experience and education to help you out with your needs. Unfortunately, as with any other intimate relationship, not all personalities work well together. Choosing an accountant is not the same as choosing a place to get your hair cut. Make sure that whomever you choose has the type of personality that you work well with. Are they flexible enough to take into account your specific situation while staying within established guidelines? Are they willing to take your phone call and/or meet with you when your schedule allows it? If you are working with someone, they need to be willing and able to work with you. If not, they are not the right professional for you.
