Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I model my business by a la carte pricing model. No job is ever the same so no prce could ever be the same. I price fairly for the job at hand. Tell me the details of the job and we can work out a price.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When I communicate with a new customer, I am looking to get to know them and work out what pictures they want to have taken. A new customer is important because we need to understand their needs so that we can match the service to what they want. I do this by asking questions and meeting via Skype, video chat, or personal meeting at a coffee shop. I provide them with the options they have and then allow the customer to decide.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I recently graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with a degree in Photography. I wanted to be sure that I am giving my clients the best possible chance to receive great images that they will cherish.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always had a passion for photography and it wasn't until I came to Florida that I decided to pursue my passion. I attended school to further my knowledge and experience, and then I went out into the workforce assisting and learning from other photographers. This allowed my to gain the knowledge and experience to handle my own business.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with restaurants, designers, real estate agents, brides, expecting mothers and many more. My skills allow me to capture whatever the need is for my client.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Just because someone is the lowest doesn't always mean they are the best. I know that times are hard and everyone has a tight budget when it comes to photography. However, remember that the images taken by the photographer may be the only thing you will have in the future from your event, wedding, or product line. Paying a little more may help ensure that you are going to get a quality experience and product from the photographer, rather than have regrets by trying to save a few dollars. From my own personal experience, when I got married my wife and I hired a "friend" that liked to take pictures for our engagement and wedding photos. We saved a lot of money, but now regret our decision. The reason we made a bad choice was because our friend took nice images, but they were of champagne glasses and artistic things from the weeding. He never stopped to have my wife and I pose for family portraits, and he did not capture many of the moments that are important for a husband and wife to recall about their wedding. If we had the chance to do it over again, I would definitely hire a professional photographer for the rate they charged to make sure that I had images that I would be happy to have and also brought great memories.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Photography is a skill that is under a change right now. Many people think photography is about pushing a button on a camera, but it is so much more. Many photographers that stand out in our trade understand what photography is truly about, light. True photographers understand how light is used to help create something more than a snapshot, but how it is used to create art. Photographers are artists, and even though anyone can have a camera these days, the artists are the ones that move beyond thinking about the camera and come into understand of the light.
