What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When a couple contacts me about a wedding I first try to gather as much information about what they would like in order to help me put together a package for them. I'll suggest a package and work with them to make any adjustments to the package to best meet their needs and budget. Once we do that it's simply a matter of getting a contract and deposit in place. Both of those are done online. All my payments are secure with PayPal. I then work with the couple to plan the specifics of the day as far as the timeline and any specific photos/style they request. I'll help them plan a schedule that makes efficient use of time as wedding days can be very hectic! One of the best things a couple can do is to establish a Pinterest "Mood Board" with wedding or engagement photos they like and then they can share that board with me. It really helps me as a photographer understand their own unique preferences. Once the wedding is completed it takes 2-4 weeks for all the editing to be completed. At that point I meet with the couple for the big "reveal"! We usually meet at a coffee shop and simply enjoy going all the pics together for the first time. It's my favorite part of the process! I love seeing the smiles on their faces. At that meeting I help the couple start to pick out any prints they would like. I show them sample sizes and papers, albums, and other options. I always offer a significant discount on any purchases they make that day. Of course, I NEVER force couples into specific print packages so they are never under an obligation to buy prints. They will always get digital images with social media rights and they are already formatted for the web! The process is easy and efficient. As for clients looking for senior pics, family portrait, and other photos we simply speak on the phone and schedule the session.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I'm fond of all my projects but a recent wedding in Grand Rapids was especially nice. I met the couple here on Thumbtack and we went through the process together. They created a custom package and had me booked for 4 hours. The day of the wedding as I watched outside I could see a beautiful sunset about to take place. I knew from looking at the venue on Google Earth (while doing my own planning for ideas) that there was a park just 1/4 mile away with trails and trees. I suggested to the couple during the reception to let me take them to the park for a total of 30 minutes to take advantage of the sunset. It meant I would be staying longer then we agreed, but that didn't matter. The important part was delivering the best possible product I could to the couple. We did it and the pics from the park are amazing!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Have an idea of what you're looking for in terms of final images. Do you want prints, an album, or something else. That will help me understand how best to help you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the time frame for a wedding project. In other words are you looking for complete day coverage and engagement photos as well or something smaller. It's all ok but you should start with what you'd like.
