unfold fold
As a registered architect, I complete a minimum of 36 hours of continuing education for each 3 year license renewal period. In addition I also complete continuing education to maintain my LEED AP certification. I also read source material on photography every month keeping abreast of the latest developments.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been doing photography since I was around 8 years old. I went to engineering school and got a Bachelors in Civil Engineering at Columbia University. After that I got a Masters in Architecture and Masters of Construction Management from Washington University in St. Louis. I have always used the visual strength of photography as an essential tool in my kit as a design professional. It is the process of seeing architecture both as a viewer and a creator that has led me to only increase my love and passion for photography. I finally reached a point where I decided to turn this love of architectural photography into a professional endeavor.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Photographing completed projects for architects to place on their website. Exterior and interior residential and commercial buildings for real estate professionals for use in sales. I also track construction projects from pre-existing conditions through to project completion.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I was hired by an architecture firm to photograph two adjacent historic buildings in Manhattan. They had designed facade restorations, so I was shooting the exteriors of the buildings. I spent many hours in various lighting conditions to capture all of the wonderful and beautiful details found on these buildings such as terra cotta. My appreciation of the unique architecture of each building I think came through in the final photos, which the client was very happy with. This success led to them asking me to photograph additional buildings in Manhattan that they had completed in the past for their online portfolio on their website.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Consider all of the factors when selecting a photographer. While price is certainly important, also take the time to understand what you are getting for each price. A professional possessing the skills to create great images of your work may be require you to consider their skill level, and the positive influence that excellence in the photos will mean to your brand. In addition, working with a design professional such as a photographer that takes the time to listen to what your needs are and what you are looking for is also a prerequisite for a great photo shoot.
