Introduction

I have been in the building trades for 34 years and 29 of those years were spent as a finish carpenter. I also build custom cabinetry and built ins. One of my favorite’s that I am very found of is woodworking and furniture making.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Each job I do is unique and custom so pricing varies with each job. Materials, how involved a job is, and timing of the project completion will dictate pricing as well.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Home visit meeting to gather as much information as possible and measure area where work will be performed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

4 year Apprenticeship program and received Journeyman status.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

1991 started working in a custom shop building furniture and cabinets

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Home Office were I handmade the cabinets onsite, did the veneer work on the Walls and ceiling, Handmade box beams, with crown boxes, to form a coffered ceiling. The customer aloud me to set up shop in their three car garage and it took me 2 1/2 months to complete.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look for years of experience in finish carpentry work and cabinet building. This type of craftsman should be knowledgeable in the materials they will be handling and using.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Design, and function as well as color scheme. A good place to start is home magazines and consult in an interior decorator.
