Introduction

Hi, I’m Justin, the hands and heart behind Built by Whiting. I provide skilled handyman services throughout Utah County and Salt Lake County, specializing in installs, repairs, and practical upgrades done with care and precision. From appliance installation to furniture builds and light electrical, I take pride in doing things the right way: clean, professional, and always on time. No upselling, no mess left behind, and no cutting corners. Just honest, high-quality work you can count on. I built this service on the belief that homes should feel good to live in and that the work done inside them should reflect that.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge a flat $85/hour with a $150 minimum for all jobs. I also offer flat-rate pricing for common tasks like TV mounting or appliance installs to keep things simple. First-time clients may qualify for $20-$50 off their first project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I start with a quick message or call to understand the job and expectations. Once we confirm details, I schedule a time that works for you, show up on time, and complete the work cleanly and efficiently. I always leave the space better than I found it.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I’ve spent many years working in residential maintenance and construction, handling everything from appliance installs, electrical work, to furniture builds, and woodworking. I’ve also worked as a supervisor for a property maintenance team.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
It started with my first ever full-time job when I was 18 years old as a maintenance technician and me fixing and building things for my own home, then for friends and family. I’ve always loved problem-solving with my hands. Eventually, I realized I could offer a high-quality, honest handyman service that people could really rely on.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Homeowners, renters, property managers, and even small businesses. I’ve worked with everyone from newlyweds furnishing their first place to seniors needing safer lighting and smarter storage. I focus on being respectful, adaptable, and communicative.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently built a custom floating canopy bed with LED under-glow lighting, designed, built, stained, and assembled from scratch. It took about 10 hours plus drying time and turned out beautifully. One of my favorite pieces to date.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Hire someone who communicates clearly, shows up when they say they will, and doesn't cut corners. Cheap work ends up costing more in the long run. Look for someone who treats your home with the same care they'd treat their own.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What’s the exact result I want from this job? Do I have any photos or examples? What’s my ideal timeline and budget? Am I okay with flat-rate pricing or do I prefer hourly? Being clear about your needs up front helps everything go smoother.
