What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a son of a fireman of 30+ years that instilled great knowledge of fire safety and importance of fire prevention. While I do not hold any certain license or certification, I have a strong base of education and knowledge in the practice of chimney and dryer vent fire prevention.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My fireman father and I began cleaning chimneys together when I was a young teenager and I continued as a side practice until grown and decided to make a business out of it about six years ago.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have a customer base of home owners, realtors, apartment building managers, sports / medical clinics, and take references from appliance retail and HVAC business owners.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A recent customer called for our services stating they had "burned up two brand new dryers" and could not figure out what the problem was. I scheduled a time to visit their home to inspect their dryer vent to ensure this was not the issue. The homeowner explained they were not aware of the importance or need to clean the dryer vent and theirs had not been cleaned since they owned the home, 20 years. A climb into the attic revealed a completely clogged vent that had become disconnected at a joint but clogged so full, it still had no ventilation. I was able to educate these customers on the importance to keep the vent clean, how it affects the performance of the dryer, and the increased risk of a fire when not cleared on a regular basis.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Chimneys and dryer vents should be cleaned a minimum of once per year. If the chimney is used in excess, ie. daily for continuous months, twice per year will decrease risk of fire. Keep the flue closed when not burning a fire to prevent wind blowing in and climate controlled air escaping through the chimney.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
- What type of fireplace you have? Wood or gas burning? - What type of chimney you have? Masonary or metal pipe? - What do you burn in your fireplace? Starter logs, seasoned wood, etc? - When was the chimney or dryer vent last cleaned? - Dryer Vent - Where does your vent exit? Wall, roof, through attic?
