What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I request an initial deposit to begin work. From there I send out invoices only after each phase is complete. Design phase, progress phase and permit phase.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First I like to have an initial phone call, figure out the scope of work and what the homeowner already has in mind. I then send a soft proposal and go over the three design phases with each client. Once a deposit is sent, we work together until the design is how the owner wants it and we submit for permit.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I got my bachelors degree in Architecture at Auburn University in 2003.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started out helping my father in his construction business and fell in love with the craft. I went to school for architecture and have been practicing in Georgia for over 20 years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

All kinds! I have worked with clients on home additions, home remodels and completely new home builds from scratch. Some clients have an idea already drawn out and some have only just started.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I just completed a new apartment complex called Park East located in Texas. It is a four story building with a brand new club house and lobby. It has been in the works for 3 years and is finally coming together.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Have floor plans and ideas already written or drawn out. You can go into a new home design from scratch, but it is helpful for both the owner and the architect if you have a starting point.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What is a realistic time frame for design and permitting? The permit process can take 4 -6 weeks plus review time depending on your district. How much square footage are you willing to give up? What rooms take priority in your design? What is your expected budget and timeline? Are you doing this yourself or hiring a contractor? Have you done this before recently in your district or will this project be your first?
