Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

So proud is my work with a Boulder based manufacturer. We took books that were behind and overly complex and turned them into a easy to understand and update financials. My greatest source of pride was being able to train a young (student) accountant from a basic understanding of debits and credits into a financial controller who can run the day to day operations!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Understand the various types and levels of accountants: Bookkeepers and Controllers are responsible for the “past”…. As in reporting your historical numbers. Bookkeepers will report things at the individual transaction level; financial controllers then take the work from that stage into a full financial profit and loss balance sheet and other reporting you may need. They may also be skilled at assisting you with health benefits, insurance and other operational needs. CFOs are responsible for the “future” of the business. They will oversee the work of financial controllers, accountants and bookkeepers but their primary focus is to assist you with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and strategic guidance. They will also assist you with coordinating the outside preparation of your tax returns. Tax CPAs and preparers - their primary responsibility and focuses on preparation of federal and state tax returns and occasionally will take on sales tax and payroll taxes for you. Although some offer additional services at their firms, most are not in the business of being your financial business advisor or bookkeeper.
