Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Although I display an hourly rate, it primarily applies to specific one-time projects, such as catch-up or clean-up bookkeeping. For ongoing services, I prefer to work with a fixed monthly fee. My standard rate starts at $300 per month for basic bookkeeping, which includes transaction categorization, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reports. A fixed fee allows for predictability—no surprises on your invoice—and reflects the value of consistent, reliable support for your business. It also makes budgeting easier and keeps us both focused on the results, not the clock.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Here’s what you can expect when we start working together: Introductory Call – We’ll begin with a brief conversation to understand your business, your bookkeeping needs, and determine if we’re a good fit. Document & Access Setup – Once we agree to move forward, I’ll send you a short checklist of what I need to get started, such as access to your accounting software, bank statements, or prior reports. Initial Review – I’ll review your current records to assess the state of your books and determine if any clean-up or catch-up work is needed. Proposal & Agreement – Based on the review, I’ll provide a clear quote (fixed monthly fee or hourly for one-time work) and a service agreement outlining the scope of work. Ongoing Work – Once everything is in place, I begin regular monthly bookkeeping—categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and sending monthly reports. I also stay in touch throughout the month if anything needs your input. My goal is to make the process smooth and straightforward, so you can feel confident knowing your books are in order.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an MBA, which have given me a strong foundation in financial management, business operations, and strategic planning. In addition to my academic background, I am a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor – Level 2, which means I’m trained to help businesses use QuickBooks Online efficiently and accurately. With over 10 years of hands-on experience in bookkeeping, I combine formal education with practical know-how. I stay up to date with industry standards and best practices so I can deliver accurate, dependable support tailored to the needs of small businesses.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began doing bookkeeping over 10 years ago, initially helping family members and friends who owned small businesses. They needed someone they could trust to keep their finances organized, and I found that I genuinely enjoyed the work. Over time, what started as a way to lend a hand turned into a clear career path. With my background in accounting and business, it felt like a natural fit. I realized I had the skills and the mindset to bring clarity to financial records and help business owners feel more in control. That experience inspired me to launch DLH Bookkeeping Services, where I now support other entrepreneurs with the same level of care, accuracy, and professionalism.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
At DLH Bookkeeping Services, I specialize in supporting small business owners across a range of industries. My clients include doctors, lawyers, insurance professionals, real estate companies, automotive sellers and repair shops, software developers, and retail store owners. These businesses all have one thing in common: they rely on accurate, timely financial information to make informed decisions. I understand the unique challenges each industry faces and tailor my services to fit their specific needs—whether it’s staying on top of monthly reporting, managing cash flow, or preparing for tax season. My goal is to bring clarity and peace of mind, so my clients can stay focused on running their businesses.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One recent project that stands out involved a small real estate company that came to me with over a year’s worth of unreconciled transactions. Their books were behind, and they were stressed about tax deadlines and unclear financials. I took on the project and, within just three weeks, I brought their records fully up to date—categorizing all transactions, reconciling multiple accounts, and cleaning up reporting errors. Not only did I help them get organized, but I also gave them a clear view of their financial performance and helped set up a system for staying current moving forward. The client was relieved and grateful, and I was proud to deliver such a meaningful transformation in a short time.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
If you’re looking to hire a bookkeeper, my advice is to choose someone who not only understands numbers but also understands your business. Look for someone who communicates clearly, is responsive, and takes the time to explain your financial reports in a way you can understand. Make sure they’re experienced with your type of business or industry, and that they use reliable accounting software. Don’t hesitate to ask about their process, how often they reconcile accounts, and how they handle communication. A good bookkeeper should give you peace of mind—not just by keeping your records accurate, but by helping you stay organized and make informed decisions. Most importantly, choose someone you feel comfortable with—because trust is key when it comes to managing your financial information.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Questions to Consider Before Talking to a Bookkeeping Professional What are my specific bookkeeping needs? Do I need ongoing monthly support, or help catching up on past records? What accounting software am I currently using? Am I open to switching if needed? What financial reports do I need regularly? Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, cash flow statements, or something else? How often do I want my books updated and reviewed? Weekly, monthly, or quarterly? What is my budget for bookkeeping services? Do I prefer a fixed monthly fee or pay-as-you-go hourly billing? Do I have any special industry or regulatory requirements? For example, compliance needs for medical, legal, or real estate fields. What is the state of my current financial records? Are they organized, or will there be catch-up and cleanup work? How involved do I want to be in the bookkeeping process? Do I want regular updates or only summary reports?
