What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing for the Accounting and tax services depends on the amount of work involved and/or the number of forms required to be filed. Some of my services are priced at a fixed rate such as payroll processing which starts at $20/month for a monthly paycheck for 1-5 employees then goes up depending on the frequency of the paychecks and the number of the employees. My standard rate for processing Quarterly Employment Reports runs $80/quarter. My standard rate for IRS calls run $50/hour.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I do an initial consultation, at no change, to find out more information about the services being requested. This consultation can be done via email, over the phone, or face-to-face; whichever the potential client prefers. Once we agree to work together, I gather the required information and proceed with the job requested. I like to keep open communication throughout the entire process.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I hold an Enrolled Agent designation with the IRS and a Bachelor Degree in Accounting. I am currently pursuing my MBA with a concentration in Accounting. I take several continuing education classes each year to stay up on current changes and industry strategies for accounting, tax, and financial services.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I got started with Accounting due to taking an Accounting class in high school just to fill an elective then truly enjoying it. I started with tax preparation by working for H&R Block just to help with household expenses and still be able to spend most of my time with my child that was only year old at the time then I truly enjoyed preparing the returns as well. I initially pursued the financial services just to get a better understanding of the various types of accounts so that I could better advise my Accounting clients then I found that I really enjoyed that industry also.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I typically work with small business owners in my Accounting business. My tax clients are small business corporations, self employed individuals, rental property owners, and any individual taxpayer.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Interview the professional to ensure that they will be a good fit for whatever service you are requesting. Possibly ask for references and check for negative reviews on the various referral websites. When searching for a tax professional, make sure to stay clear of anyone that won't sign the return &/or bases their fees on the amount of your refund. When searching for financial services, perform a FINRA Broker Check to ensure their license is active and they don't have any sanctions against them.
