Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I give quotes on tax preparation based on the complexity and timing of the deadline. However, if someone opens an investment account with me in the amount of $50K or more, I include tax preparation with the assets-under-management fee.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
A client can either work in person or remotely. With the dawn of the technological age, I am able to use secure platforms to work remotely with clients throughout the country. For investment planning, I will generally have an initial free consultation to ascertain a background. Then I will do a general overview of my investment management capabilities. For tax preparation services, I will generally look at previous returns and current year documents, then give a price estimate of my services. I will then send the client an engagement letter as well as an invitation to Dropbox so that we can share documents going forward.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Yes, the continuing education requirements in my line of work is extensive. For the CFP certificate for example, the requirement is 25-30 hours a year in continuing education classes.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started getting interested in the stock market and investment/tax planning in the late 1990's. Since then, I have gotten my MBA and other credentials, continually motivated to learn as much as possible about the field, which is always changing.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Tax prep. (business and individual), Financial Planning, Portfolio Construction, Investments

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently did a tax return in which there was a lot of research needed to get this client a solid refund. He was a student in the Harvard MBA program.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Please do your "due diligence" and read my reviews. As my customers will attest, I work hard to continue our relationship and offer as many services as possible.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I wish that my customers were more aware of the ethical obligations that come with the maintenance of my credentials. I am required to sign a pledge every year in which I admit to any ethical wrongdoings during the year. This is unique, and I wish that my customers knew my high ethical obligations.
