What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I price with a flat fee model, meaning you pay the same amount each month, even if your volume increases substantially in one month! We will collaborate on pricing based on the business size, transaction volume, and types of services needed. I often extend discounts for new businesses who are looking to get started on the right foot, as I understand that cash flow can be tight early on!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

After connecting, the next step is to make sure we are a good fit. I like to have an exploration call where you can determine if my working style is a good fit for you, and where I can determine what your needs are and if my services match your needs. Assuming we are on the same page with expectations, we would move forward with the onboarding process, which includes deciding on the specific services, pricing, and software.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor, and have been working on the platform for 5 years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been an Excel nerd for years. I started a few small-scale businesses in my early teen years, and began tracking my own business and personal financials in Excel and, eventually, QuickBooks desktop. I'm the rare breed that just loves being behind a computer screen plugging away with bank statements and journal entries!

What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with a number of retail/commerce businesses, home service businesses, and manufacturing companies. There have also been a number of auto/mechanic shops and individual contractors who have found their way to me over the years, as well.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I was tasked with building an inventory management "system" for an e-commerce client of mine. In reality, it was simply a bunch of automations (Zapier) and spreadsheet tabs that all resulted in a method of checking current inventory levels in real time. However, the wonderful part of the product was essentially given a blank slate to work with; I got to design the system from the ground-up over the course of the month, with no restrictions. I firmly believe that creativity takes many forms through many different mediums...including spreadsheets and financial figures.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The number #1 most important thing to gauge when hiring a bookkeeper is the commitment to communication. When you are feeling out a potential new partnership, test the responsiveness of the provider and the clarity/professionalism in their responses. If they don't give you responsiveness in the prospecting part of their pipeline, why would they treat you any better during the actual working relationship?

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I would recommend coming to the table with knowledge about the services you need done (i.e. running payroll, tax reporting, financial reporting, reconciliation, etc.). Know that some providers will specialize in certain things, and be committed to your non-negotiable items that you can't compromise on. It will make hiring someone much less stressful!
