Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
The most crucial thing to realize is that hiring a true professional for a few hundred dollars more can result in tax savings of several thousand dollars. An enrolled agent or other tax preparer without a certification won't be able to offer as much as a certified public accountant with extensive tax experience. The complexity of a client's tax return only determines the fees. We will talk about the circumstances and decide what is best. Don't immediately choose the less expensive tax preparation option; you could end up losing out on significant tax savings.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I will set up a secure client portal for each new client I work with so they may share documents. To ensure the comfort and protection of both parties, he or she will also sign an engagement letter. I start working after the client has uploaded all of the documents to the site. After doing the assignment, I go over everything with the client to make sure they comprehend their tax status.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Along with a CPA license and a master’s degree in taxation, I have worked at some of the largest public tax firms in the country for many years. I have managed tax accounts for some of the Fortune 500 companies, wealthiest Americans, as well as accounts for the every day worker.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Whatever you do, avoid hiring someone who isn't licensed to prepare your tax returns. If your tax situation is too complex for TurboTax, be sure to hire a certified public accountant (CPA). Not everyone requires a CPA; as I previously stated, use TurboTax if your case is straightforward enough. If you need anything more, invest the extra cash in a licensed, state-regulated professional.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Determine your particular needs, then ask the expert for the best approach to accomplishing them. Which form of corporate organization is ideal for you? Does a S Corporation make sense? What about a partnership or LLC? Selecting the right professional could result in tax savings of thousands of dollars.
