Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My hourly rate is $40.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Usually, when I meet with a new client, I ask them to describe the nature of their business and their current accounting/bookkeeping processes. Sometimes the best option is to continue with how they have done their books in the past and sometimes, we need to streamline some processes. I will ask the clients if there are certain issues that they would like me to look at. I will then try to find the best solution and will discuss it with the client so that we are always on the same page.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have more than 15 years of experience in the accounting field. My positions varied from a full charge bookkeeper in a family run CPA firm to an accountant in a larger corporation. I currently do bookkeeping for small businesses and non-profits.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I first got into bookkeeping by being hired as an administrative assistant in a CPA firm. I quickly started learning the accounting software that they were using and started picking up additional responsibilities. I started as an administrative assistant but left with the skills of a bookkeeper.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with small business in different industries. My clients included a nursery, an automotive service shop, a lawyer, and many others.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you understand what the bookkeeper is doing and why. Many times, I have encountered a client who left it all up to the bookkeeper and when that person left, they didn't know anything about their financial situation. I am not saying that you should micro manage everything; after all, that is why you are getting someone, so that you can relax and not worry about all this stuff. But just follow up with your bookkeeper every once in a while and make sure that things are going in the direction you would like them to go.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What do I need from a bookkeeper? Will they handle all of my finances or certain parts of it? Do I have any problems that need to be resolved right away? Do I want to make any changes in the current system or am I fine with keeping things the way they are?
