I'm just getting started but this a dream I've had since I graduated college. Now that my son is in college I'm working to fulfill my dream of creating my own accounting practice.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge a flat fee based upon the needs of your business and the tax structure you’ve set up.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
It's important to understand a new client's business. So there will be an in depth conversation about the business, what's happening today and where you are going for tomorrow. If you have a place of business then I like to come on site to see how things flow. I can learn a lot about a business being inside their four walls. If you don't have a place, it's ok. We will talk about your company. Communication, though is key to helping you run your business.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Business from University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA. I also have a Masters of Taxation from University of Denver.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I discovered I enjoyed accounting when I took it in High School. It was easy and I enjoyed the work. I got to college after finishing four years in the Army. I am a Desert Storm Veteran. The Army helped me pay for school. I started out at a Mid-sized CPA Firm in downtown Washington DC, got married and had my son. We moved to Austin a year later. I divorced and spent 14yrs raising my son as a single Mom. That meant a corporate career so I always had steady income and regular hours. Now my son is in college and it's time to work on my dream of owning my own practice.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have working in manufacturing companies, service companies, medical practices, and construction companies.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
When looking for a service provider it’s important to connect with the individual. I had a project where I connected to not only the business owner but also members of his team

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Can they help you with tax planning or more than basic bookkeeping services? Often my clients get more information in working with me. I answer questions they didn’t know to ask.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Am I looking to save money on taxes? Do I have the best business structure for tax savings? For what am I using my financials? This answer should be business analysis - the key to saving money.
