Yes. Intuit offers continued professional education training through their Pro Advisor program. In order to remain certified, I must take these courses each year. Additionally, in an effort to ensure that I am educated on any new accounting policies, I attend CPE courses through the AICPA and TXCPA societies.

I grew up with parents who were small business owners. My mother handled the bookkeeping for my father's business and I grew up seeing first hand how important accounting is to the viability of a business. I enjoy numbers and get much satisfaction from accurate records, as well as checks and balances. I suppose I never really decided upon accounting, but rather it has always been a part of me. My mentality is that everything has a place and everything must be in it's place.

The most common service I offer is QuickBooks software training and setup consultation. The second most common service is customized bookkeeping assistance for businesses that already have someone handling the day to day input of records. I come alongside the employee and assist on a weekly, biweekly, or even monthly basis to ensure that the proper reports are being run, data is entered correctly, and to assist with technical accounting questions.

I recently began working with a client who is a small business owner and had purchased the QuickBooks software but did not understand the full functionality of the program. They had hired 2 accounting professionals prior to contacting me. Both of the previous professionals had incorrectly setup their software, and were not equipped to advise them on how to utilize the software for their particular line of business. After spending 2 days with this client, I was able to clean up and train them so that they are able to utilize the software in a very effective and efficient manner. I have received multiple emails and text messages from this client letting me know how grateful they are and how much they have learned from me. I will continue to provide consulting services to this client on a monthly basis to ensure that they are entering their records correctly.

I strongly recommend gaining a good understanding of the accounting professional's experience and background. Do they hold a degree? A license? What is their work history? Being a professional in this industry, I often times meet a client who has hired a bookkeeper who really didn't have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of accounting. This often leads to a bookkeeping mess and requires additional expenses to hire another professional, such as myself to come in and clean up the books. In fact, I met each of my clients due to this scenario. It is important to do your due diligence as a business owner and ask for references and current clients to contact and gain a better understanding of whom you are hiring.
