Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My standard hourly billing rate is $90/hour, although I will write that down a little for work that I can schedule regularly and in advance. My rates reflect 20 years of accounting experience and helping my clients grow their business.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Because each client has different needs, there is no standard "template" or process that applies to every customer. Generally, I meet with each prospective client to try to prioritize their respective needs and timeline, and devise a game plan to address their concerns.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have more than 20 years in private and public accounting, including extensive audit, tax and general accounting work. Although I do not prepare income tax returns as part of BAS, I generally work hand in hand with my client's chosen tax prep firm to make sure the process is seamless and efficient.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I realized early in my career that I enjoyed working hand in hand with my clients to help them grow their businesses. Each business is different and has its quirks. Each business owner has their own desire and mission. Having accurate accounting records is paramount to the implementation of successful long term strategies, and I am in a unique position to have enough experience to help them implement these.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
My clients have run the gamut of industry, with a focus on small, service oriented businesses. Additionally, I have clients and extensive experience in: -restaurant accounting -healthcare -not for profits, unions and 501(c)(3) -government contracting -retail/wholesale businesses -startup businesses, including developing business plans and projections -short and long term cash flow projections

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Find an accountant with experience; there really is no substitute for that. Find an accountant who is easy to work with that you trust. That my seem simple, but I have seen many examples of "accounting gone wrong", and they almost always begin with inexperience and/or a poor personality match.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
There are very few quick fixes in strategic growth, and growth begins with accurate accounting records. Prospective customers should consider how long a project will actually take (not rely on a "perfect" case scenario), and what they hope to achieve once the project is completed. In my experience, accounting experience is almost always a vital component of every successful business, small or large.
