Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I have prices that are comparable and competitive to computer/tech work from other more well known companies. I charge flat rates for everything. I don’t charge by the hour like other contractors.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Once contacted I typically talk with the potential client about their issue over the phone or text message. If their problem is too complex explaining over the phone I will book an appointment to drive to their location with in a 30 minute drive distance to resolve their issue.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have 20+ years of working experience with computer equipment & technology. I also work on highly specialized, computer controlled measurement systems in a manufacturing plant in which I work with 3 different OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) on their systems. They are as follows: Mapvision, Zeiss, & 4D systems.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began building, repairing and upgrading my own PCs from when I was a teenager. Later I invested my time and money on helping friends, family, & others understand complex computer issues and fixing them.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I’ve worked with young adults up through older adults from ages 20 to 75. I generally work with older individuals with a difficulty understanding how to set up or repair computer systems & other tech in their homes.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I repaired a system that had classical issues of having failing hardware and BIOS corruption on the home-built gaming computer. This issue was fixed in only 35 minutes of time. I tested the RAM, graphics card, CPU, Monitor, HDMI cable and the power supply but everything turned out ok. Then checking all the cables from the power supplies and found that the CPU power cable from the PSU (power supply unit) was unplugged for an unknown reason. I plugged that in and fixed the issue of computer not starting.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Check to see if they have lot of experience in the area you are looking for. Has this person working on computers before? Has this person set up 5.1 or 7.2 Home Theater systems before? Do they know what old technology looks like in comparison with todays tech? Would they charge you upfront without looking at your problem and seeing it first hand to determine if the issue can be fixed or if the item is not fixable (ie, tv screens must be replaced or returned to factory for most repairs)

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Is this problem difficult to fix? Are there parts can can be replaced or is the whole system junk? How much time will it take to repair or install? Consider what it takes to install, repair or troubleshoot your issue.
