Introduction

[ *** I work in Savannah/Low Country/FL, AS WELL AS in Atlanta/North GA; please look below for a link to my 200+ reviews (!) from my North GA Thumbtack account *** ] We go the extra length to find a solution to continue using their computers, and consider having to tell the customer to "start over" / buy new computer a failure on our part. Helping people who have only been told to "Buy A New computer," is fundamental, as these machines sometimes just need a little attention/upgrade to keep on working for you; Stretch that investment as long as possible I say(!). I am not looking to get rich off of every single job. I am instead looking to build a customer base. Our typical $80 fee is 1/2 hour of labor that both identifies the issue and (in most cases) also applies as the labor to fix it. Parts needed will be extra; I can price them or the customer can obtain them themselves -- of course then they are responsible for functionality and correctness of part.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge 1/2 hour of labor ($80) to diagnose the issue with a computer, and give the customer a quote on the cost of repair. If the repair is approved, the 1/2 hour diagnostic charge is applied to the total cost of the repair.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I send them either a quote for the repair, OR the labor quote + request for more information so that I can ID the technology and the parts needed for the repair.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Gold-Level, Apple Sales Training Online program

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was a paralegal for over 15 years, when I was asked on a visit to my favorite computer repair shop if I would be interested in helping out on the weekend. I went from that role to the shop's manager in four years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
PC and MAC desktop and laptop repair and upgrades, which include everything from dc-in repair, Hard Drive data recovery, Logic Board replacements, LCD replacements, diagnose "Blue Screen of Death" and Mac "Black Screen Of Death/Kernel Panics." Advise on network setup for home or office.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Don't worry about any real (or perceived) lack of computer know-how or nomenclature -- just described what you are experiencing.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
...That if you do what you love to do, you'll never work a day in your life.
