Attorney Skelly has a professional background in child welfare and social services having worked for 18 years in the field. Attorney Skelly attended law school at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School at their Riverview campus. She did their accelerated program and completed law school in just over two years and graduated magna cum laude with honors. In her legal career, Attorney Skelly started out at the State Attorney’s Office in Fort Myers, FL. She helped prosecute several cases and has done several jury and bench trials. Attorney Skelly also has a tremendous knowledge in the area of family law which includes divorce, paternity, child custody/parenting plans, alimony and child support as well as domestic relations issues such as domestic violence injunctions. Attorney Skelly is also certified as a Guardian ad Litem and can serve as a Guardian ad Litem in family court cases. How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always wanted to be an attorney, I started my legal career out at the State Attorney's Office and then moved on to family law working with clients involved in divorces, domestic violence (TRO) situations, as well as paternity/custody disputes.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with clients in family law matters-domestic violence issues, divorce, custody, paternity, etc. as well as criminal defendants.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I had a family law case where an elderly client wanted a divorce from an abusive husband and just wanted out of her marriage. She was very kind and was ready to move on. It took about five months. Divorce proceedings typically take longer, so this was an exception.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask lots of questions to make sure you are the right fit for the attorney and the attorney is the right fit for you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Cost, whether they can afford the attorney's services. Also what their end goal is with hiring the attorney.
