My name is Attorney J. Latasha Walker and I've been practicing divorce and family law for 27+ years, and in private practice for 20+ years. I enjoy the practice of law immensely. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My fees are extremely affordable and I offer several different divorce packages and payment plan options to assist our clients, when needed.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I offer free initial consultations, including in-office, phone, or zoom, and I strive to make sure new customers receive competent and professional legal advice in order to make an informed decision regarding their legal matters. I also strive to make sure the client's questions are being answered and that they get the time with me that both they and their case deserves.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

24 plus years of trial and litigation experience in the practice of divorce and family law, including Contested divorce, Uncontested/Agreed divorce, and Divorce by Publication. As a trial attorney, I also have experience in Legitimation and custody actions, child support and contempt matters, and more.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I initially began practicing criminal and juvenile defense but later found my passion in family law and divorce representation through my role as a court attorney advocating for parental rights through the Juvenile Court system. In 2003 I left full time criminal defense to branch out into family law and have been practicing primarily in this area ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Husbands or Wives seeking an Uncontested/Agreed Divorce by full settlement agreement, a divorce by publication where the other spouse has left the state or cannot be located and needs to be served through the newspaper, or a contested divorce where the parties are unable to agree. I’ve handled divorces with children, custody and child support issues, with marital property, with no marital property, with retirement and 401k, and for clients needing spousal support. I’ve also handled divorces and family law matters where the other parent is absent or missing and where child support needs to be established or custody needs to be modified.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I was recently able to help a client get a divorce after being separated from his spouse for over 16 years. I was also able to help another client secure her divorce from a spouse who had left the country and later assist that same client's new spouse with a step-parent adoption.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Hire an attorney who is willing to answer your questions and help you to understand the process. Hire an Attorney who is willing to give you and your case the time it deserves. Hire an attorney who is experienced.
