Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Payment arrangements on retainers may be accepted based on income.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
It is important that I give my prospective clients a 15 minute phone consultation so that they have an idea on how I would handle their individual case prior to retaining me. It sets everyone's expectation from the beginning.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I was a paralegal 7 years prior to becoming an attorney. I have been practicing for 10 years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I always felt that the system was unjust so I wanted to initially be a criminal defense attorney. After law school and being an assistant public defender, I realized that area of practice (criminal defense) was not for me. I truly do argue for what is fair for the parties and best for the children. If I happen to find that my client is not being fair or trying to use the child(ren) as a tool to punish the other party- I have no problem letting them know and withdrawing from their case. I am not about punishing the other side, but I am about arguing for what is FAIR.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have a variety of client's ranging from all backgrounds, sex and ages. In practicing family law, there is no specific client and to the various areas that any person may need legal representation for. AREAS OF PRACTICE IN FAMILY LAW include, DIVORCE, CUSTODY, CHILD SUPPORT, ADOPTION, CONTEMPT, MODIFICATIONS, LEGITIMATION, FATHER RIGHTS, VISITATION, etc...

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I love giving back to the community and assisting families with correcting any legal wrong. For example, I worked for Georgia Law Center for the Homeless and Family Project. Both of which assist people in transitioning from homelessness back into a home.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Find the attorney that you feel most comfortable with and who is available to speak with you. Hire an attorney that practices in the county where the case is filed. It is important that judges are familiar with the attorney that is representing you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Is your case contested or uncontested? Contested means that you are NOT in full agreement. Uncontested Cases costs less. If there is any possibility that the case may be uncontested- try keeping it that way. It's best that you decide your fate instead of a Judge deciding your fate within a couple of hours. Judge's try to make the best decision, but it's difficult for any person to make the best decision after hearing brief arguments in Court. Uncontested cases can get extremely nasty and often times the parties are in Court throwing dirt on the other party and the parties exit the courtroom dealing with what has been said in court; thereby creating more tension between the parties then necessary. Remember, if you have children together- you still have to deal with the other party until the children are at least self-sufficient.
