Introduction

I have been practicing law a long time and still love it. I know you never heard a fish peddler holler rotten fish, but my bedside manner, experience and credentials are second to none. My practice is limited to specializing in issues concerning disability, estate (wills, trusts and power of attorneys), long-term care and nursing planning, as well as probate and trust administration. I encourage you to surf our website at BRMMlaw.com. A little about me. Married 40 + years, 2 wonderful adult children and a furry child -dog. I have been actively involved in Alzheimer's Association - Greater Michigan Chapter as past President and Chair of Board. Member of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and have been listed since 1991 in the Academy's Experience Registry. Past chair of the governing council of the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section of the State Bar of Michigan. I am also a charter member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners and member of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metropolitan Detroit. I have been selected by superlawyers for 14 years in a row, which designates that I am in the top 5% of lawyers in the country in my field. I am also an accredited attorney with the US Department of Veterans. Since 2009 I have Been selected by Hour Detroit Magazine as 5-star wealth manager in the area of estate planning. I have been awarded by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel as being in the Top 1% of my field. I know what a lot of people say is that I must be very expensive. My response is that I charge no more than most attorneys. I handle matters big and small. My thought is you do not have to have money to get sick. Finally if your matter involves Elder Law such as protecting assets from the nursing home we make believers out of non believers all the time. Married couples can save most if not all their assets and not married at least half the assets and can qualify for Medicaid Finally, food for thought it was not raining when Noah built the ark. I hope you give me a chance to assist with your planning and give you peace of mind. In case your circumstances involve Probate or other matters we will do everything to hold your hand and be extremely fair with our fees.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Long story. Out of law school I began practicing with legal aid and the government laid me off. Then I floundered for awhile doing insurance and medical malpractice defense work. I then landed with Hyatt Legal services and managed an office that did a lot of estate planning and taught myself elder law. Then went on my own and concentrated in estate planning and eventually ended up where I am. I have been the managing partner for 10 years and love what a I do.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

What is the difference between an elder law attorney and an estate planning attorney? also serve the broad middle class. address their fears and needs offer hope where there is no hope but only fear, offer answers where one believes there are no answers address deep, heartfelt concerns about quality health care. Elder Law is not just for the elderly; it is for anyone who wants to grow old one day. No one is promised tomorrow Noah built the ark before the rains came not a dress rehearsal Estate Planning Attorney Focus avoiding probate by planning for lifetime disability - unable to participate what happens to the assets after one is gone. do not consider long term care illness how obtain greatest quality of care ....least restrictive .. least cost They look at: •DPOA medical springing •DPOA $ limits or prohibits gifting. Never allows the ability to plan for the unthinkable, the caregiver goes first. •No long term care language to protect homes in Revocable Living Trusts. Elder Law Attorney Considers: Veterans Medicaid estate tax laws. •Incapacity from a different perspective, DPOA - effective immediately for medical decisions. •DPOA allows gifting for proper long term care planning. Perhaps authority to amend trust • House can be removed from Trust if there is a long term care issue. Joint ownership unavailable Planning for the unthinkable We address: How can I stay in my home? What other sources are available? What if I can’t stay in my home? How can I pay for it without going broke? Greatest! Quality of Care at least cost
