Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My hourly rate is $325 per hour. Uncontested matters are typically flat fees, starting at $2500 and up, depending on children and property. My retainers for contested cases are typically $3000 to $4000 but vary depending on the case.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I usually speak with my new customer over the phone for a free consultation. If decide to proceed, we email the new client paperwork and link to pay their retainer or flat fee.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
In 1991, I received my Doctor of Jurisprudence of South Texas College of Law (Now Houston College of Law).

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I worked for a large firm in Dallas many years ago. One day, our family law attorney quit and I was re-assiged all of the cases. I loved it and realized that I was good at it, so I've stuck with it all of these years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I represent mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, grandparents, concerned relative and friends.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently won a hotly contested modification case where in my client was definitely the underdog. Sometimes attorneys forget that it's not the number of witnesses that matters, it's the quality of the witness's testimony. I'd rather have two solid witnesses, rather than 10 redundant witnesses.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Choose someone that you feel very comfortable with. Go with your gut. Make sure you pick someone that treats you like a person not a number. Also be careful about going with someone just because they are the lowest price. Be wary of anyone who tries to talk you into mediating your case without counsel present.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It is helpful if clients think through their specific questions before we speak. I also find it beneficial to talk about my clients biggest concerns. That way, I may be able to give them some peace of mind and our first conversation.
