Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We begin with a free phone consultation, which can often times resolve many issues. Private lessons are $160.00 per lesson if you choose to move forward, each lesson lasting up to one hour. In most circumstances I recommend weekly lessons, so that progress can be accurately measured and any backslide quickly addressed. Board and train services are $3,000.00 for two weeks of boarding, and include 6 free follow-up private lessons.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We begin with a free phone consultation, to establish your training goals and determine the appropriate course of action. There are many cases where this resolves all issues and no follow-up is necessary, for example with basic housebreaking or minor routine adjustments. Issues such as reactivity and loose leash walking, for example, generally require weekly follow-up lessons to ensure that all details are in place. Time until completion varies greatly depending on goals and circumstance, but the primary factor will be your consistency and repetition between lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Just 25+ years of professional experience.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My mother started her home business, Alpha-Zen K9 Academy, back in 1998, starting me on the path at a very early age. I’ve been adapting and refining my methods for more than 25 years now, having worked with literally thousands of dogs, all ages and breeds, and am familiar with a variety of approaches for many specific circumstances.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with all ages and breeds, and have extensive experience with leash reactivity, aggressive behavior modification, basic obedience, and many other types of problem solving.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Please understand first and foremost that the private lessons are more for you than your dog. I will demonstrate the techniques and teach you how to train the dog, but the dog’s progress is entirely dependent on how consistent and repetitive you are between lessons. The same can be said for board and train, which gives a significant head start, but follow through with private lessons is very much necessary for improvement. If they return home, test a boundary, and realize that it is no longer a boundary, they will likely revert back to their original behavior fairly quickly.
