Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I offer several customizable packages depending on each dog's needs. I also offer a "Preparing For Puppy" before you bring your new puppy home single class. My hourly rate begins at $170. Please visit my website for in-depth pricing and information.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
It generally starts with a phone call or inquiry through my website, where we set up an initial consultation. During this time we discuss what you and your dog's training needs are and how we can create a plan for success. We always want to keep in mind what your goals are, your lifestyle, how much time you have to work with your dog or if you want me to help with that part.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Each year, I've attended various conventions from Clicker Expo to APDT. Fifteen years ago attended Dog Tec Academy in San Diego. I am continually enhancing my education by reading, watching, listening, subscribing, writing, blogging, and attending dog training programs/seminars. I am Red Cross pet CPR certified, a PSA Member, APDT Member and CGC Evaluator. I am currently studying for my CPDT - KA.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
My specialty is family pet training, and my niche is working with puppies. I have worked with all ages, breeds, and temperaments. I work a lot with pet parents and their families to raise mentally healthy, well-behaved family members. I've helped many adopted rescues acclimate to family living. I have also worked with many dogs with different behavioral issues ranging from undersocialized fear-based aggression, debilitating fear/anxiety, and overzealous jumping/lunging family pets.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure they train in the belief system you are looking for. Look for what is compatible with how you want your dog trained. We understand the science revealing intimidation training techniques are outdated and unnecessary to achieve your training goals and may even damage your relationship with your dog. Ask a LOT of questions. Be prepared. The more knowledge you have before hiring a trainer will help you and your dog get your desired outcome.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Are you a fear-free reward-based trainer, or do you use corrections and intimidation in your training? What are you willing to have your dog trained with? Is this trainer well-versed in dog body language and signs of stress? How much time is needed to reach your goals? Am I willing to put in the time to continue to practice and do my homework to KEEP the desired results? Do you want someone else to train your dog or would you like to be hands-on the entire time? What kind of education/experience, and background does the trainer have? Do they have references? Will they offer an evaluation for your dog?
